URGENT: “Reactivating European urban citizenship: a network of inclusive towns”
ALDA – The European Association for Local Democracy, in partnership with the European Grouping of Territorial Cooperation Amphictyony, invite you to participate in the URGENT Final Conference “Reactivating European urban citizenship: a network of inclusive towns”. The event will be taking place in the city of Agia Varvara in Greece, on the 31st of May and will bring together representatives from local authorities, civil society associations, universities and experts to exchange knowledge, experience and good practices on the topic. In the afternoon, the URGENT Inclusion Fair will take place to allow local organisations to present themselves and their activities, as well as to exchange ideas on common topics of interest.
The conference is part of the project “URGENT – Urban Regeneration: European Network of Towns”, financed by the Europe for Citizens Programmes of the European Union. Being now close to the project completion, the 13 project partners can already put forward the lessons learned and experiences accumulated throughout the international seminars and activities implemented in the framework of the local path.
The project methodology allowed 11 cities to develop territorial analyses and familiarise with the local migration issues. Based on the identified local needs, each partner has launched a consultation to develop a pilot project and further implement it in their cities. In parallel the 3 international seminars allowed the partners not only to exchange knowledge and experience on socio-spatial inclusion but also to develop a network capable to put forward position papers and recommendations on the addressed issue.
Project partners are meeting in Athens from 30 May to 1 June to share results of the pilot projects and to conclude the project. During this last international seminar, the partners will develop a city manifesto to build a common understanding about interculturality, social inclusion, integration of migrants and the right to the city foe newcomers. The project results will be valorised in a handbook collecting the experiences of the enactment that overcome stereotypes about migrants and build counter narratives.
ALDA invites all interested stakeholders to join our work on fostering social inclusion of migrants and vulnerable groups at the local level and to make urban spaces a better place to live in.
