Conference: final event of the project Working Together for Development
The Association of Local Democracy Agencies (ALDA) organised the final event of the project Working Together for Development, which will take place on 5 June at the Council of Europe, in Strasbourg. This event collects and analyses most of the debate that has been going on these years over the possibility to link closely citizens' participation at the local level and the concept of development. Considering the start of the new European programmes on the matter, a road map over the implementation will be identified.
The international conference 'Bridging the European Year 2013 and the European Year 2015: from participation to development' will bring together the most important actors in the enlarged Europe scene on the topics, putting a spotlight on the relations between these two priorities for all of us Europeans.
The event is supported by the Council of Europe and by the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the CoE. After the keynote presentation on development, the morning session will conclude with the presentations by the project partners. During the lunch break, the 10 years from the 'big bang' enlargement of the European Union will be celebrated. The afternoon session will be dedicated to local governance in Ukraine.
During the conference, a major publication about citizens' participation at the local level will also be presented. Written by ALDA together with our members and partners, it will be published by Peter Lang, International Academic Publishers.
The project Working Together for Development (WTD) started in January 2012. Funded by the European Union within the programme "Non-State Actors and Local Authorities in Development" and led by ALDA, it brought together 21 partners and associates from 16 countries in Europe and its Neighborhood, both among associations of local authorities and networks of civil society organizations, and through the method of multilateral decentralized cooperation, it built strong partnerships between the involved actors, contributing to effective and sustainable development.
