New member: Lendinara, the city where Gianfranco Martini was Mayor
It is a great satisfaction for ALDA to be able to count, among its members, the municipality of Lendinara, in the Province of Rovigo, in the Italian Region Veneto. Indeed, this medium seize town had an important place in the life of ALDA's Honorary President Gianfranco Martini, both for personal and professional reasons. There, he got married and started his family. Later, he initiated his political path by being Mayor from 1951 for more than a decade.
An event in cooperation with Alfredo Martini and all the family was organised on 17 September, to present the recent collection of articles written by Gianfranco. The collection is called "LA STRADA SI FA CAMMINANDO". It reminds the different steps of Gianfranco's life and commitment and his constant engagement for peace and intercultural dialogue, based on local communities.
The Mayor of Lendinara, Vivaro Luigi, confirmed the principles and values for which the city is joining ALDA : "To remember and be linked with the memory of Gianfranco Martini, to be able to do something concrete together to promote the values and ideas that we share for a Europe bottom-up, to be able to place our small town in a bigger European context. Europe is here, around us". The Secretary General of ALDA, Antonella Valmorbida, participated in the debate as well as the Regional Councillor, Diego Bottacin, good friend of Gianfranco Martini.
