Building new opportunities for youth in the Mediterranean area: meeting held in Paris
On Friday and Saturday 9-10 October 2015, Anne-Laure Joedicke, Project Manager of ALDA for the MENA region, took part to the event “Jeunesses méditerranéennes – Pour un avenir commun et un engagement citoyen et solidaire” (Youths in the Mediterranean – For a common future and a civic and supportive commitment) organized by the REF (Réseau Euro-Med France) in Paris.
This event aimed to tackle and reflect together on four main issues:
- Youth employment
- Mobility of youth in the Mediterranean area
- The role of art and culture for the young generation
- Active citizenship
These two days gathered representatives of European and Arab Civil Society Organizations and gave the opportunity to meet young activists coming from France, Spain, Malta, Syria, Libya, Lebanon, Palestine, Egypt, Tunisia, Algeria and Morocco.
After one day and a half of workshops on the four themes identified for this meeting, the event ended with a public debate organized at the Sorbonne University, with the presence of journalists, students and French officials, on the topic “To be young and a citizen in the Mediterranean”.
This successful and very enriching event highlighted the similarities but also the differences between the young citizens all along the Mediterranean and gave the floor to active citizens acting for the youth in their country.
ALDA is very grateful to the Réseau Euro-Med France and to all the participants for this highly inspiring opportunity.
