ALDA at the discussion on the path to COP21 at the EESC
On 19th November, some representatives of ALDA attended the conference “Civil Society, cities and regions preparing for COP21 and beyond” held by the EESC in Brussels.
The meeting aimed to mobilize and align the actions of sub-national actors within the framework of the COP21 upcoming meeting in Paris. The event was an occasion to summarize and debate the state of play of negotiations and the position of the main international stakeholders who are against the topic.
ALDA – the European Association for Local Democracy - put particular emphasis on the engagement of citizens as relevant actors to promote sustainable development at the local level. We are convinced that local authorities, in cooperation with civil society organisations and citizens, have a fundamental role in implementing environmental policies in their communities. A more holistic and multilevel approach is key to involve all actors in this fundamental challenge for our future as humanity. ALDA’s project WE-NET will be a concrete tool to promote environmental friendly cities and citizens in 8 different countries across Europe.
