ALDA at the 36th meeting of the Western Balkans Follow-up Committee
On 14th December 2015, ALDA, represented by Stanka Parac, SEE Regional Programmes Coordinator, attended the 36th Meeting of the Western Balkans Follow-up Committee of EESC in Brussels.
The meeting, chaired by Mr. Carmelo Cedrone, President of the Western Balkans Follow-up Committee, aimed at presenting the draft programme for the period 2015-2018 of the Committee.
Several key points were at the core of the agenda of the meeting, such as the EU – Western Balkans relations – with specific reference to the refugee crisis that is affecting our continent, and to the EU Enlargement Policy and the stability it brings to the EU – and the main problems that Western Balkans countries have to face, namely corruption, minority rights, the lack of freedom of expression and the weakness of social partners.
The meeting was also the occasion to start the preparation work for the 6th Western Balkans Civil Society Forum and to discuss about and revise the points of interest, such as strengthening the economic and social councils and capacity building of CSOs and ensuring press and freedom of expression in the Region.
ALDA, with its long-lasting experience and in the Western Balkans, confirmed its availability to be a constant participant to the Committee for inputs.
