ALDA becomes a Covenant Supporter to the “world’s biggest urban climate and energy initiative”
ALDA is now officially a Covenant Supporter! Heralded as the “world’s biggest urban climate and energy initiative” by Commissioner Miguel Arias Cañete, the Covenant of Mayors for Climate & Energy brings together thousands of local and regional authorities voluntarily committed to implementing EU climate and energy objectives on their territory.
ALDA and its members see the urge to support the covenant members in fighting climate change and achieving the EU’s 20% CO2 reduction and 40% by 2030. Currently there are around 400 signatories who joined the initiative, working on the basis of the three pillars - mitigation, adaptation, and secure, sustainable and affordable energy and nearly 7000 supporters around the world.
“We commit ourselves to get the Covenant objectives and messages on the ground, among local authorities and civil society” said Oriano Otocan, President of ALDA. “This new role further expands the opportunities enjoyed by our vast network members, providing them with fresh challenges for development and education”.
The Covenant of Mayors for Climate & Energy is an initiative by the European Commission.
