The European Solidarity Corps is the new initiative launched by the European Commission in December 2016 aiming at bringing young people together and providing them with the opportunity to contribute to society across the EU.

The European Solidarity Corps intends to build a more inclusive society, supporting vulnerable people and responding to societal challenges. It offers an inspiring and empowering experience for young people who want to help, learn and develop.

Participants of 17-30 years old have the chance to volunteer, take on a traineeship, apprenticeship or job for a period between 2 and 12 months, in a broad range of fields such as education, health, social integration, assistance in the provision of food, shelter construction, reception, support and integration of migrants and refugees, environmental protection or prevention of natural disasters. After completing a simple registration process, European Solidarity Corps participants will be selected and invited to join a wide range of projects, such as helping to prevent natural disasters or rebuild afterwards, assisting in centres for asylum seekers, or addressing different social issues in communities.

ALDA - the European Association for Local Democracy – calls on young people across Europe to apply and join the already 20 000 registered participants. The European Solidarity Corps is a key tool to promote active citizenship and participation in their communities. This measure will also enhances youngsters’ employability skills and equips them with relevant experience and knowledge.
