Local democracy in practice: Patras Municipality and the “ARRIVAL CITIES” project
ALDA is proud to report that our member, Patras municipality, takes an active stand in ARRIVAL CITIES project. Representatives from Patras ULG held a meeting on 8 February 2017 to monitor and futher plan project implementation.
ARRIVAL CITIES aims to foster migrants’ social inclusion sharing good practices between project partners, in order to facilitate local authorities facing the challenges and problems of migration crisis.
The discussion in Patras was focused around the second workshop in Vantaa (25-26 January 2017), its best practices on employment and integration of migrants into the labor market. Further, there was an exchange of thoughts on the European Week Against Racism 2017 (18-26.3.2017). Particularly aiming at the development of joint actions among local actors to highlight the importance of unity against discrimination and stereotypes.
Patras ULG members also addressed the launching of the design of the local action plan as an open process to all interested bodies wishing to contribute. Therefore, related questionnaire that had been conducted by ADEP SA would be distributed to citizens. City’s membership and engagement in the project, gives a significant advantage to apply democratic values on practice.
