While preparing the next transnational activity of the URGENT consortium, taking place in the city of Mostar (Bosnia and Herzegovina) on 28-29 November 2017, the Mostarian community is successfully progressing on its local process of tackling urban fragmentation, inequality and structural socio-spatial divisions within the city.

Under the lead of the LDA Mostar, representatives of local institutions, civil society organisations, experts and ordinary citizens reunited on 28 July to reflect on innovative solutions to strengthen the culture and traditions of the city, while sharing knowledge, information, documentation and data. For centuries, Mostarian culture and traditions have been the result of a mixture of the urban culture and the culture of the surrounding areas. The large migration of the population during the war in the 1990s led Mostar to have more inhabitants not born than those born in the city. This feature greatly influences the culture and the traditions of the city.

Participants reunited in the focus group showcased their work, exchanged their view-points on the issue and proposed ideas on how to contribute to preserve the culture of their city. Several options were discussed, common solutions identified and an action plan agreed among all participants, in line with the project URGENT and the idea of bringing positive change to the local community.
