LDA Armenia joined CORLEAP 2017 in Yerevan
The director of LDA Armenia, Lusine Aleksandryan, brought ALDA to the Conference for Regional and Local authorities for Eastern Partnership (CORLEAP).
The 2017 session of this yearly conference focused on “Innovative and regional development: Agents for growth in Eastern Partnership countries” and took place on October 24th in Yerevan, Armenia.
The conference was attended by international and local government representatives, by members of European Committee of Regions and by local authorities. Mr. Vache Terteryan, First Deputy Minister of Territorial Administration and Development of the Republic of Armenia, moderated the panel.
E-governance experiences from EAP countries were presented during the conference. Ms, Jelizaveta Krenjova from Estonia and Mr.David Melua from Georgia introduced the audience to the topics of online voting and highlighted the benefits of using social networks to foster citizens online participation in council meetings.
Latvian delegate Andris Jaunsleinis focused the attention of the audience on the fact that while e-governance is a very useful and easy tool, it cannot work without both governmental support and citizens participation. The progress and implementation of Mayor for Economic Growth projects was presented by Mrs. Viola Calabrese, Programme Manager from the European Commission, who pointed out that the main problem that every community has to tackle is the lack of economic development vision and plan.
Mr. Terteryan concluded that all the discussed issues comply with the priorities and strategic plans that will be implemented by the Armenian government in the next future.
“Development of a unique e-governance system is quite possible and necessary for Armenia. As CORLEAP is an effective tool for promotion of EAP priorities targeting local authorities, I suggest to organize the next meeting not in Yerevan but in smaller communities across the country” with these words H.E. Piotr Antoni Switalski, Head of the European Union Delegation to the Republic of Armenia, closed the conference.
