Kickboxing for social inclusion. The extraordinary success of our member’s FATE project
The Erasmus+ Sport project “Fighting for equal access to sports and exercise -FATE” stemmed from a desire to make sports suitable for all, with the main goal of achieving social inclusion of people with different disabilities through professional sports (in this specific case kickboxing), which was brilliantly reached.
The project, of which ALDA is a supporter, was coordinated by our active member, the municipality of Trebnje, Slovenia, in partnership with four martial arts clubs: KBV Fearless Fighters (Trebnje), Victory Gym (Novi Sad, Serbia), Victory Gym Trenĉin (Trenĉin, Slovakia) and A.S.D Diamond Boxing Academy (Trieste, Italy).
They together organized four international kickboxing tournaments, the “FATE FIGHT NIGHT EVENTS”, and donate the through events raised funds to those disabilities centres which cannot provide by themselves additional sports programs for their members.
Participation was extraordinary: the four events attracted more than 5000 visitors, involved hundreds of volunteers and also strengthened coaches and fighters’ mobility, sharing professional and amateur experiences.
FATE project also organised joint trainings between the members of partnering martial arts clubs and the members of the disabilities centres. The result was surprising, from both sides: more than 70 disabled zealously attended those trainings and new ongoing collaborations between partners and disabilities centres have been established. Contrary to TV screens, which use to deform kickboxing in a cruel professional competition, FATE objectively presented such sport as a perfect activity of workout and recreation, implicating huge physical, psychological and social benefits.
FATE project concretely made an impact on civil community, in terms of social inclusion, engaging directly those people who cannot benefit by themselves from activities such as sports, fundamental for human wellbeing in all its declinations.
