Seminar "Co-operation and networking as an opportunity for development of the border regions", SNET.EU project
On 28 and 29 May in Banja Junakovic in Apatin, Serbia a seminar was held within the cross-border project SNET.EU, financed by the European union. The seminar «Local governments and EU integration: Cooperation and networking as an opportunity for development of the border region» brought together representatives of local governments and NGOs who have had an opportunity get a better insight on key aspects of regionalization in the EU and program countries, evolution of the appropriate legislative framework and institutions, as well as the role of regions as actors of socio-economic development.
Examples of successful regional development projects funded through the EU funds were presented, as well as the priorities of the Danube Strategy and opportunities for development of supporting initiatives, exchange of knowledge and networking at european level. The participants also had the possibility to learn more about the evaluation of regional and cross-border initiatives, and the preparations of Croatia to access the funds of EU regional policy.
The main topics elaborated were of essential interest for getting the local governments closer to EU integration process. The thematic sessions were conducted by experts comming from Serbia, Croatia, Hungary and the UK. The experts who shared their knowledge and insights with the audience were Cllr. Roger Lawrence, member of the City Council of Wolverhampton (Lead partner of LDA Subotica) and member of ALDA Governing Board, Borislav Stojkov-PALGO center from Belgrade, Veran Stancetic-University Singidunum Belgrade, Tamas Gyulai-director Eurotech Ltd. Szeged, Nada Kozul-project manager of the Regional Development Agency of Slavonia and Baranja.
Collaboration and networking were continued in the informal part of the seminar, which included a visit to Apatin and sailing tour on the Danube. After two weeks, another seminar will be held on the other side of the border, in Vukovar, where the capacity building and the exchange of ideas and knowledge will be continued.
