The President of ALDA discussing territorial cooperation after the accession of Croatia in Europe
In the framework of the 11th European Week of Regions and Cities – Open Days 2013, the President of ALDA, Mr. Oriano Otočan, participated, in the common premises of the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region, of the Region of Istria and of the State of Carinthia, on the 8th of October, in the round table ”The EGTC EUREGIO without borders in the new European territorial cooperation – perspectives after the accession of Croatia”.
Mr. Otočan stressed the importance of territorial and cross-border cooperation with a special mention for the future programming period.
Having regard to the new 28th member of the European Union, the Republic of Croatia, the President of ALDA highlighted the historic importance of “borders” that have characterised the territory of Istria in the last century. In this contest, the Region of Istria, defined as a “region within European regions” has became “Istria without borders”.
A remarkable contribution to the round table has been given as well by the President of the Region of Istria, Mr. Valter Flego, the President of the State of Carinthia, Mr. Peter Kaiser, the President of the regional council of the Autonomous Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia, the Diplomatic Counsellor of the President of the Veneto Region, Stefano Beltrame, the representatives of the EU institutions and by the Secretary General of the Association of European Border Regions - AEBR, Martin Guillermo.
