Social entrepreneurs: a call to re-act!
The Strasbourg Declaration: A horizontal dialogue between social entrepreneurs and European institutions
“After the 2011 Social Business Initiative a real European community of social entrepreneurs emerged, as shown by the unique and inspiring meeting in Strasbourg. I hope the community will keep growing, also with the support of EU funds, and that social entrepreneurs will support each other and spread know-how across countries, so we that achieve inclusive growth in line with the Europe 2020 vision”
Commissioner László Andor
The International conference “Social Entrepreneurs – HAVE YOUR SAY” focused on the future possible engagement of social entrepreneurs as a vehicle for social and economic cohesion.
Social enterprises offer a model for 21st century business that balances financial, cultural, social and environmental needs. Governments and public bodies have started to recognize the power of social entrepreneurs as agents of change, as individuals and as group who are passionate about improving the lives of people and communities. It has emerged that there is the necessity to work at European as well as at national level to encourage the improvement of the social economy system which should be complementary and not substitutive of the traditional economic system.
The Commission ensures that its commitment to create an eco-system for social enterprise is mainstreamed in its policies; it is clear European institution must work in partnership with the social and enterprise sector, Member states, regional and local authorities in fully supporting the growth of social enterprises.
