ALDA, BINA & OXFAM met key stakeholders at the CoE
On 7 March, the Strasbourg office of ALDA welcomed the visit of their Azeri partners Mr Samir Aliyev, Head of the Center For Support For Economic Initiatives (BINA) and Mr Orkhan Ali, Governance Programme Manager at Oxfam Azerbaijan. The visit was an occasion to further the discussions on the process of setting up a Local Democracy Agency in Azerbaijan, to be promoted in joint partnership.
It was also an opportunity to advocate for further support from the Council of Europe. A set of meetings with high level officials was organised throughout the day. They were an key moments to discuss the political situation in Azerbaijan and the means to further develop the democratisation and decetralisation process in the country.
Fruitful talks were held with Mr Robert Drzazga from the permanent representation of the Republic of Poland to the CoE, Mr Adrian Evtuhovici from the Cabinet of the Secretary General of the CoE, Ms Yulia Kochneva, representative of the European Association of the Schools of Political Studies of the CoE, Mr Sergei Bazarya, from the Office of the Director General of programmes, Ms Jutta Gutzkow and Mr Ivan Nikoltchev from the DG Democracy and the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities’ delegation represented by Mr Jean Philippe Bozouls, Executive Secretary of the Chamber of Local Authorities, Ms Stéphanie Poirel and Olesea Savca from the Secretariat of the Monitoring Committee, Ms Sabrina Feletig, Project Coordinator and Ms Jane Dutton-Early from te Department of Statutory Activities.
ALDA, BINA and Oxfam welcomed the Council of Europe’s support for the new LDA to be established in the Caucasus region and, in particular, CoE’s vision to consider the Agency as a key means to put the recommendations issued for Azerbaijan into practice.
