Project CHOEIRS: Europe, Environment & Health in Mesagne, 13-15 March. Bottom up approaches for environmental and health policies
More than 100 representatives of national and international local authorities and civil society organisations are taking part in the three day activity in Mesagne (Apulia, Italy) for the international workshop of the project COHEIRS – Civic Observers for Health and Environment, Initiative for Responsibility and Sustainability.
The project is coordinated by the Association of Local Democracy Agencies (ALDA) in cooperation with the Euro Mediterranean Scientific and Biomedical Institute (ISBEM). It brings together 17 partners from 12 different countries from across wider Europe (Spain, France, Italy, Malta, Hungary, Slovenia, Croatia, Slovakia, Romania, Bulgaria, Albania and Macedonia). More than 2400 people of different demographic, social and professional background have been directly involved to make their voice heard.The activity also benefits of the participation of high level experts and European institutions’ representatives.
The aim of the project is to support active participation of citizens in the EU democratic life by collecting their ideas and opinions on key issues affecting their daily life such as environment and health.
The event is currently under way: many important actors are giving their opinion and sharing their experience, such as Bernardo Notarangelo (member of the Administration Council of ALDA), Franco Scoditti (Mayor of Mesagne), Alessandro Distante (President of ISBEM), Raffaele Baldassarre (member of the European Parliament), Alberto Basset (professor at the University of Salento), Prisco Piscitelli (ISDE Italy) and experts in the field.
The event will go on tomorrow with the presentation of all the partners and the organisation of working groups, and it will be concluded on Saturday with the presentation of some new ALDA and ISBEM project ideas and the definition of an action plan in order to realise a transnational network of civic Observers and the definition of an action plan from Partners in order to confer visibility to the project and to the recommendations.
