Fundamental importance of best practices exchanges for Local Authorities
The Latvian Assocation of Local and Regional Governments, LARGL, is member of ALDA and involved with the Association on a number of projects in Eastern Europe (in particular in Belarus) and in the EU.
Latvia went through a transformation process of its whole structure, administration and civil society, before it entered the European Union. It represents now an important member of the Union and will chair the EU presidency in 2015.
The importance of local governance and decentralisation has been confirmed by Mr. Andris Jaunsleinis, Chair of the Latvian Assocation of Local and Regional Governments, in a meeting with Mrs. Antonella Valmorbida, Director of ALDA, during the Congress session. "It is fundamental to support best practices exchanges to show practically and with the more concrete approach possible, how are local and regional authorities functionning. Education, including education of administration, must be at the first place in assisting Eastern Europe and within the framework of the Eastern Partnership process", said M. Jaunsleinis.
A promising cooperation between LARGL and ALDA is certainly well in place for the future!
