ALDA'S WORK IN CROATIA
ALDA works in Croatia with three Local Democracy Agencies, in Verteneglio/Brtonigla, Sisak and Osijek. The LDA programme in Croatia started in 1994 and focused mainly on building trust and post war programmes for reconciliation and support to the population. ALDA and the LDAs are now focusing on the development of local democracy and the good functioning of local authorities that are still relatively weak in the local system. ALDA's programme and activities has consistently been a strong supporter of Croatia's integration in Europe, which will culminate with Croatia's EU membership. Many cities in Croatia are members of ALDA and the newly elected President of ALDA (June 2012), is Mr. Oriano Otocan, Director of International Relations at the Istria Region.
