Join the Elections to create a new Europe - The future is in our hands now

Do you believe in the European values of dignity and human rights, democracy, freedom, equality and legality? At ALDA yes, we do, and we are convinced that it is worth acting for these principles now.

When? At the next European elections, which will take place from 23 to 26 May 2019, and which will be crucial for the future of the European project – for our future. Across Europe, citizens aged 18 will be called to vote to elect representatives to the European Parliament, and for thousands of them it will be their first opportunity to exercise their right to vote. We need you, to reach out to young voters and make clear to them what is at stake in these consultations, how to vote and its consequences.

To do this, ALDA, in collaboration with ENAIP – national network of services for training and employment, is offering 6 grants of 300 € each to young people up to 30 years old residing in Italy for the realization of initiatives aimed at raising awareness among young people about the upcoming European elections.

How? We don’t need to be superheroes to make a difference, but we can leave our mark through street actions, online campaigns, videos, local events, round tables, youth forums, flyers and posters, and so on. These actions will ideally take place between March and mid-May 2019.

Do you have a great idea on how to encourage the youth in your community to vote? Are you an Italian resident and between the ages of 18 and 30?

Send an outline of your initiative in PDF (max. 2 pages) to irene.zanetti@aldaintranet.org by March 12, 2019, clearly explaining:

– how many people you will reach and through which modalities
– the expected costs to implement the action (you will need to send us justifications of costs incurred).

Whether you want to change things or you are satisfied with the current situation, the European elections are the opportunity to make your voice heard! Did you know that the European Parliament is the only European institution directly elected by the citizens? And did you know that the European Parliament represents European citizens as such?

We are counting on you so that young Europeans can have their say, for a stronger Europe!

Sokol Dedja, zamenik ministra za Evropu i spolјne poslove Albanije i g-đa Antonella Valmorbida, generalna sekretarka ALDA-e.

Ovaj projekat finansiraju Evropska unija i Balkan Trust for Democracy i projekat Marshall Fonda Sjedinjenih Američkih Država.

Join the EP Elections to set a new direction - The future in our hands, now

Do you believe in the European values of human dignity, human rights, democracy, freedom, equality and the rule of law? At ALDA, we do! And we believe they are worth to act for, now. When?

At the upcoming European Parliament elections, taking place from May 23rd to 26th 2019, which are crucial for the future of the European project – for our future. All over Europe, 18-year old citizens will be called to vote for the European Parliament and for thousands of young people this will be the first opportunity to exercise their right to vote. We need you, to reach out to young voters and make sure they know what they are called to vote for, how to vote, and the consequences of their actions.

To do so, ALDA, in cooperation with EVTA – the European Vocational Training Association, is offering 12 grants of 300 € each to young Europeans up to 30 years old, for the implementation of initiatives raising awareness about the upcoming European elections.
How? We don’t need to be superheroes to make the difference, but we can bring an impact through street actions, online campaigns, videos, local events, round tables, youth forums, flyers and poster, and so on. Those actions would ideally take place between March and Mid-May 2019.
Do you have a great idea on how to encourage fellow young Europeans to vote? Are you a European citizen up to 30 years old?
Send the concept of your initiative in .pdf (max 2 pages) to irene.zanetti@aldaintranet.org by 10 March 2019, clearly explaining:
• how many people you will reach, and how
• costs foreseen to implement the action (you will need to send us the invoices of costs incurred).
Either you want things to change or you like the situation as it is, the European Elections are your chance to have your say! Did you know the European Parliament is the only EU institution directly elected by EU citizens? And more, did you know the European Parliament directly represents EU citizens as such?
We count on you to get all Europeans to have their say, for a stronger Europe!

ALDA and the LDAs at the “Forum of Cities and Regions for Development Cooperation”

The 2019 edition of the Forum Cities and Regions for Development Cooperation – Local and regional partnerships for sustainable urban development came to its end, and once again confirmed itself as a must-join event.
The Forum brought together more than 500 local and Regional Authorities, associations, city networks and practitioners from all over the enlarged Europe and it was co-organised by DEVCO and the European Committee of the Regions.

The event being axed on the themes of decentralised cooperation, we are particularly proud to announce that ALDA and the LDAs have been officially recognised as key stakeholders in this field. The event represented an exclusive occasion for policy dialogue on sustainable urban development between EU institutions and local and regional authorities, thus with a particular emphasis on the implementation of the Agenda 2030 and its SDGs. ALDA was represented by Antonella Valmorbida, Secretary-General, and Sofia Caiolo, LADDER project manager and expert of DEAR programme (Development Education and Raising Awareness), as well as numerous members of ALDA. Since its very beginning, the Commissioner Neven Mimica (DEVCO) and Karl-Heinz Lambertz (CoR’s president) stated loud and clear that sustainable urban development is one of the future greatest challenges, give that by 2050 an additional 2 billion people will live in urban areas. As ALDA we had the opportunity to present our activity and experience in the field of decentralised cooperation, an important tool to promote sustainable development and the collaboration with stakeholders from different backgrounds.

Among the Forum’s best features, we underline its vocation as event boosting dialogue and shortening distances between EU institutions and local authorities, as well as its inspiring nature, namely through the speech of Ms. Souad Ben Abderrahim, first female mayor of Tunis, elected last year during the first free democratic municipal elections of the country. The mayors of Kairouan (Tunisia) and Cimișlia (Moldova) also joined the Forum, as municipalities both hosting a Local Democracy Agency (LDA).

Apart from the official agenda of the Forum, several side events took place, among which we mention the presentation of the news book by Antonella Valmorbida, titled “The European Decentralised Cooperation: Acting for development engaging local authorities and civil society”. The topic perfectly fit within the context of the Forum and enjoyed a good participation of stakeholders, among which representatives from European CSOs and local authorities: hard to imagine a better framework for the introduction of the book!

The European Quiz: local action for the Elections!

On February 6th 2019, a one-of-a-kind event took place in Vicenza (Italy): the European Quiz. In cooperation with the European Parliament’s campaign “This time I’m voting”, the Cultural Centre “Porto Burci” and with the support of the “Europe for Citizens” Programme, ALDA organised a Quiz on the European Union, free and open to everyone. The event was conceived as an amusing moment and an opportunity to talk about Europe and European matters in a friendly way. The “European Quiz” saw a good participation and involvement from the local community who declared themselves satisfied by the original character of the event. The 15 questions of the Quiz covered various aspects of the Union, from politics, to geography, local customs and traditions. The participants’ competition was particularly high, due to the entity of the first prize: the winning couple actually won a 2-day trip to Brussels! The game lasted an hour and was followed by a final reception for all participants.

The European Quiz was organised with the aim of raising awareness among the local population on the European Parliament Elections which will take place next May 2019. Stating loud and clear ALDA’s apolitical position, all we care about is to do our best to inform people and boost the understanding of the privileges we are entitled as European citizens. The outcome of this vote will represent the key of the future reorganisation of the Union and its very existence, since the vote will be also seen as a tool to assess the general consensus and satisfaction of the present state of things.
If you also believe on the importance of the Elections for the future of the Union, and the welfare of every single member country, like we do, the very first and the most important thing we can do, as single citizens, is to talk about it!

Should you want some help to organise the same event or something else related to the European Elections, reach out to us and let’s make it real!
