LIME project – Labour integration for Migrants Employment has kicked-off in Rome

“You can’t go back and change the beginning, but you can start where you are and change the future” – This one-line sentence by C. S. Lewis expresses the essence of a new project ALDA will work on during the next 2 years, in collaboration with a motivated and highly experienced set of partners from Italy and Spain.

LIME project – Labour integration for Migrants Employment, kicked-off on September 21st and 22d, with a meeting organised by the project-leader Cies onlus in the beautiful framework of the old city of Rome, in their Documentation Center and Intercultural Library. It aims at promoting the swift integration of young Third Country Nationals – TCNs – (aged 18-29) in the labour market, by fostering the application of the “Cluster” methodology at local level all over Europe.

LIME is a project funded by the European Union -DG Home Affairs-Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund (AMIF), gathering together 7 partners from Italy, France and Spain: Confcooperative – Unione Metropolitana di Roma (CONFCOOP-ROMA), Federacion de Plataformas Sociales Pinardi (PINARDI) Asociacin Guarani de Cooperacion Paraguay Espana (GUARANÍ NGO), Libera Universita Maria SS. Assunta di Roma (LUMSA), Federazione Centro Nazionale Opere Salesiane Formazione Aggiornamento Professionale (CNOS-FAP).

The project consortium will thus try to shape this “Cluster” methodology, being an innovative, integrated and highly participatory approach, based on the definition of a multi-stakeholder public-private partnership engaged in a common long-term strategy enabling context-sensitive solutions. The core of the project will be two pilot actions, to be implemented in two relevant local contexts in Italy and Spain, under which the methodology will be developed and tested.

Uzice organized the first RECOV local path

On Tuesday, February 28th, 2019, in the small hall of Uzice City Hall, the first panel discussion was held on “Participation of citizens in local government decision making” within the RECOV project, supported by the European Union through the Europe for Citizens Programme. The Europe for Citizens Programme seeks to promote cooperation between program countries in common policy areas and to promote European identity, citizenship and democratic participation at EU level.

The project is implemented by the City of Uzice in partnership with 9 local governments from 9 countries and aims to improve public administration through the use of information and communication technologies that open new opportunities for greater citizen participation in local policy making and foster greater transparency of public institutions’ work at a local level.

Gordana Savic, Coordinator at the Uzice Center for Human Rights and Democracy, spoke about the involvement of citizens in the decision-making process in the City of Uzice, using the examples of the principles of democratic practice and good governance. Following this topic, Milan Milanovic – City of Uzice presented the 48 Hours System as a successful example of the use of information technology by citizens in a problem-solving process that allows citizens from Uzice to report failures and submit requests regarding the work of city services. Miodrag Petkovic, member of the City Council in charge of the finance, referred to the passive role of citizens in creating and allocating the city budget, and expressed the desire for the civil sector representatives to take an active and consultative role in decision-making regarding the planning and management of funds collected by taxpayers and thus contribute to the establishment of community-responsible local government.
The next project event will be held on April 4th, 2019 in the Small Hall of the Town Hall in Uzice, beginning at 12:00 am, with examples of good practice in this area.
