DESCRIPTION:\n\n\nThe upcoming 2024 European Parliament elections occur amid rising populism, polarization, and inequalities, exacerbated by neighboring conflicts. Analysts foresee a potential turning point for the EU. To address this, the European Commission initiated the “BELC – Building Europe with Local Authorities” project in June 2022. This aims to establish a network of local elected representatives to engage citizens and promote European debate. The Barcelona Provincial Council hosts the XXVI European Municipal Meetings to discuss democracy’s state, challenges, and strategies for enhancement.
