A better World one by one

ALDA and the localisation of the Sustainable Development Goals

On January 1st, 2016, the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) officially came into force. After years of negotiations, the SDGs were outlined in the publication titled “Transforming Our World: The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development” and officially adopted during the historical United Nations Sustainable Development Summit in 2015 by 193 UN Members States. The SDGs were based on the experience of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) but aim at being even more ambitious than the previous Goals. Thus, the achievement of the so-called Agenda 2030 appears to be possible only by applying different principles. Particularly relevant for the work of ALDA are: universality, inclusiveness and localisation.

These three features fully fit with ALDA’s nature and its operational work, reason why the SDGs have become an integral part of our work. ALDA implements actions and projects to support the SDGs’ localisation. Indeed, every single project is strictly connected with one or more targets and all ALDA’s initiatives aim at contributing to the achievement of the SDGs.

Through its active participation in European and international networks, its local actions and initiatives, ALDA is actively part of the global plan for the SDGs’ achievements also contributing to policy processes, targeting different EU institutions and citizens, advocating together towards the implementation of the Agenda 2030.
