Promoting gender equality across Europe: ALDA and the experience of the project GET-UP

On 25 April, in the framework of the project “GET UP – Gender Equality Training to overcome Unfair discrimination Practices in education and labour market”, ALDA organised a Focus Group in partnership with the Municipality of Strasbourg to discuss gender equality issues in education and at work.

***

The priority of the project is to address the stereotyping of educational and career choices and to promote gender equality in education, training, career guidance and at the workplace. GET UP aims to launch capacity building processes in the six targeted countries for the professionals who intervene in transition phases along the education-training-labour market chain. Local and transnational activities will develop and deliver training on gender equality based on a common European Minimum Standard of Competences to be defined.

The Focus Group brought together professionals and practitioners from France active in the transition phases of the education-training-labour market chain, such as teachers, trainers, guidance professionals and experts, HR managers, trade unions’ employees. The objective of the Focus Group was to raise awareness about gender equality, to share the results of the earlier developed survey, to exchange experience and lessons learnt on how to overcome gender stereotypes.

The findings along with the outcomes of the previously launched survey and research will contribute to the development of the European Minimum Standard of Competences on Gender Equality to be further developed by the partners.

The project “GET UP – Gender Equality Training to overcome Unfair discrimination Practices in education and labour market” is financed by the European Commission – Directorate General Justice and Consumers.

WE-NET project experience can help in the present and future

On May 4, 2017, the Teatro Verdi in Brindisi will host, from 3 to 6 pm, an international seminar entitled “Waste Management and Circular Economy: What Challenges for Local Actors?”

***

The event, open to all citizens, is sponsored by the Municipalities of Brindisi, Mesagne and Thiene and concludes the WE-NET project in which ALDA has coordinated 12 partners from 8 European countries, with the City of Thiene as lead partner.

The event will be opened by the President of the Puglia Region Michele Emiliano (to be confirmed), the Mayor of Brindisi, Angela Carluccio and Alessandro Distante, President of ISBEM (Scientific Biomedical Institute Euro Mediterranean). Before the Round Table on the themes of Waste, Environment, Health and Circular Economy with Italian and European institutions, Barbara Valenzano, regional manager, will present the rationale and details of the Plan to manage waste of the Puglia Region.

Funded by the Europe for Citizens program, WE-NET has created several networks (Municipalities, Associations, Enterprises, Research Centers of European regions) to promote proper waste management and sustainable development, topics that will be treated in an innovative way by citizens, scientists, enterprises, schools, institutions and media. All this in order to exchange ideas and best practices that must cross national borders.

We appeal to citizens to take part, in large numbers, to this European event where they will know better and appreciate the method followed to overcome the critical issues related to waste (collection, disposal, use, etc..) that affect the environment, health and economy.

Initiatives of this level reflect the philosophy of the project Monastery of the 3rd Millennium that is proposed by ISBEM around the world in order to give a concrete future to the various territories. In fact, with this project in the former Capuchin Convent of Mesagne, knowledge and experiences are aggregated to make innovation and allow young and old to be protagonists in their community, training well to trigger research projects, provide services and practice the Paradigm of Giving. In fact, it is known that a human capital rich in skills can best design on the basis of strong ideas and universal methods to overcome and solve problems and critical issues that often mortify our territories.
