Discover the Internet platform REMEMBRANCE OF THE MACEDONIAN FRONT OF THE FIRST WORLD WAR

In the framework of the action “The First World War in the Republic of Macedonia” an internet platform entitled DISCOVER REMEMBRANCE OF THE MACEDONIAN FRONT OF THE FIRST WORLD WAR was created in order to capitalise on the work and research realised by the partners from Normandy and Macedonia.

The internet platform aims to raise awareness on the history of this front which has been neglected in the collective memory, and which was situated for the most part on the current territory of the Republic of Macedonia. The objective of this platform is to document the Macedonian front by gathering multidisciplinary information: from military history, social history, ethnology, geography, as well as remembrance, peace and reconciliation. The platform hosts informative, scientific and pedagogical documents on the Macedonian front. “Visit the Macedonian front” is an innovative feature of this platform which is dedicated to the memorial tourism of the Macedonian front in the Republic of Macedonia and offers indications on the locations key for the events of the First World War and which still today bear its traces and relics.

This platform is created by ALDA in the framework of the decentralised cooperation between Normandy and Macedonia, supported by the action “Normandy for peace” of the Region Normandy and the French Ministry of foreign affairs.

Alessandro Perelli, vicepresidente dell’ALDA European Association for Local Democracy, il dott.

URGENT: “Reactivating European urban citizenship: a network of inclusive towns”

ALDA – The European Association for Local Democracy, in partnership with the European Grouping of Territorial Cooperation Amphictyony, invite you to participate in the URGENT Final Conference “Reactivating European urban citizenship: a network of inclusive towns”. The event will be taking place in the city of Agia Varvara in Greece, on the 31ش of May and will bring together representatives from local authorities, civil society associations, universities and experts to exchange knowledge, experience and good practices on the topic. In the afternoon, the URGENT Inclusion Fair will take place to allow local organisations to present themselves and their activities, as well as to exchange ideas on common topics of interest.

The conference is part of the project “URGENT – Urban Regeneration: European Network of Towns”, financed by the Europe for Citizens Programmes of the European Union. Being now close to the project completion, the 13 project partners can already put forward the lessons learned and experiences accumulated throughout the international seminars and activities implemented in the framework of the local path.

The project methodology allowed 11 cities to develop territorial analyses and familiarise with the local migration issues. Based on the identified local needs, each partner has launched a consultation to develop a pilot project and further implement it in their cities. In parallel the 3 international seminars allowed the partners not only to exchange knowledge and experience on socio-spatial inclusion but also to develop a network capable to put forward position papers and recommendations on the addressed issue.

Project partners are meeting in Athens from 30 May to 1 June to share results of the pilot projects and to conclude the project. During this last international seminar, the partners will develop a city manifesto to build a common understanding about interculturality, social inclusion, integration of migrants and the right to the city foe newcomers. The project results will be valorised in a handbook collecting the experiences of the enactment that overcome stereotypes about migrants and build counter narratives.

ALDA invites all interested stakeholders to join our work on fostering social inclusion of migrants and vulnerable groups at the local level and to make urban spaces a better place to live in.

LDA Mostar implements the local activities within the Balkan Kaleidoscope project

As a part of the local activities within the Balkan Kaleidoscope project, during March 2018, LDA Mostar organized and implemented two workshops titled ”Multiperspectivity in history teaching” for the young people aged 16-30. The workshop aimed to help young people understand the complexity and delicacy of intercultural dialogue through the use of a methodology of different perspectives and narratives that nurtures critical and unbiased thinking.

The workshops program and methodology were in line with the training for history teachers held in Osijek (Croatia) in November 2017, which aimed to qualify 40 teachers for teaching history on multipespecitivity basis.

The aforementioned workshops were followed by the study visit of all of the participants to three religious communities and their religious buildings in the City of Mostar surroundings: Monastery in Zitomislici, Mosque in Pocitelj and Caritas Capljina. The goal was to experience different communities all destroyed by the war happenings and rebuilt all over again, and whose population once refugees are today back to their homes and trying to rebuild intercultural relationships once again.

LDA Mostar finalized the local activities by awarding the certificates to our workshop participants and presenting the results of their work.

The projects final conference with the presentation of the project results is planned to be held in Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina at the end of September 2018.
