It has been a very active period for the cities within the framework of the decentralized cooperation between Lower Normandy and Macedonia. All throughout September many activities were carried out in the field of institutional cooperation for local development.

Several delegations from the cooperating cities visited their partners to assess the progress of their partnerships and discuss future plans and activities for 2015. Moreover, a general meeting was held for the communities of Lower Normandy that are in cooperation with Macedonia. This meeting was organised by the French association Horizons solidaires, which accompanies the municipalities of Lower Normandy in their international cooperations. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the future activities of the cooperation as well as the changes due to the municipal elections of the past year and the current topics in Macedonia, with a focus on culture and cultural heritage. The discussions were enriched by the presence of a Macedonian delegation from Debar, partners of the municipality of Ifs.
The Municipality of Debar is also partner in the project “Cultural heritage – link between the past and the future”, launched last year within the Call for Projects of the Lower Normandy – Macedonia cooperation.
In Macedonia, two municipalities met their partners: Vevcani hosted the delegation of Hermanville-sur-Mer, and the Pelagonija Region met with Pays de la Baie of Mont-Saint-Michel in the city of Bitola during the “Regional days of culture”, annual cultural event organized by the Region of Pelagonija. Pays de la Baie of Mont-Saint-Michel will continue their cooperation with the Region of Pelagonija on the topics of cultural heritage and memorial tourism. Hermanville-sur-Mer will continue to work with the city Vevcani on the subjects of cultural heritage and sustainable development, tourism and youth.
Town twinning as a segment in the Decentralized cooperation between Lower Normandy and Macedonia builds up contacts and friendship with communities from the two territories and promotes better understanding. The Programme for Decentralized cooperation is coordinated by the Association of Local Democracy Agencies (ألدا).
