The LDAs in Ukraine: an instrument of cooperation, community cohesion and development
“Common action, bottom-up approach and support to local and regional authorities and civil society will lead the reconstruction and future of Ukraine“.
As the ongoing war against Ukraine is still damaging fundamental structures of Ukrainian society and governance, ALDA believes that it is its responsibility to bring the attention to the local governments and local civil society organisations since they are active on the ground to ensure that basic services are still provided to people.
Local Democracy will Save Democracy
The present theoretical framework was presented during the General Assembly of ALDA – the European Association for Local Democracy – on the 8th of June 2023.
It capitalises on the experience of ALDA and its members and partners and it is an attempt to contribute to the challenges posed to Democracy in Europe and in the world. It identifies instruments responding to the multiple crises and offers options to support European institutions, in their efforts to strengthen Democracy as a pillar for peace and development.
The paper also highlights warnings that should be taken into consideration.

Reshaping crucial strategies to fight unemployment through social economy: Good practices
In this publication, readers can find 27 good practices to fight unemployment through social economy; based on the experiences in Italy, Spain and Greece. Hence, the latter three countries represent the hosting places of the RECRUIT project partners; which benefitting from their expertise and the activities done within the project, have collected them in this publication.
A continuous commitment to good governance: the ELoGE publication is out!
ELoGE programme – European Label of Governance Excellence, is a programme created by the Council of Europe as a toolkit to measure good governance and democracy, in which municipalities are evaluated on their level of local governance according to the 12 principles of Good Democratic Governance set by the Council of Europe.
ELoGE relies on a partnership between the Council of Europe and an existing reputable regional, national or transnational entity or an ad hoc platform with a substantive know-how, expertise or experience in the field of good governance, especially at the local level.
ALDA, having democracy and good governance at the core of its mission, has been accredited to implement the programme in various municipalities in Croatia, Kosovo* and North Macedonia and has successfully supported them by providing guidance, advice and training.
The purpose of this publication is to inform readers about ALDA’s methodology and results obtained under the ELoGE programme in the above-mentioned countries, and give a good understanding of the inner functioning and steps of the programme.

Since the very beginning, ALDA has taken an active part in the process for the Conference on the Future of Europe, by mobilising its members and partners and joining the Civil Society Convention for the Future of Europe, with the aim to stimulate civil society participation in such a unique bottom-up process and take forward all inputs to European Institutions.
This brochure summarises all actions ALDA and its partners carried out during this unprecendent exercise.

Europe and its next steps: ALDA for the Conference on the Future of Europe
As emerged from all the initiatives, ALDA is strongly advocating not only for a closer collaboration between CSOs and institutions but also for a greater citizens’ involvement. Hence, the Association will further stress the importance of participatory democracy; while urging for an electoral reform as well as accountability assurance as resulted from the surveys undertaken within the CSOCoFoE.

Milan, 1 August 2022 – People and communities with migratory backgrounds are not involved in the public discussion and strongly distrust the Italian institutions. That was highlighted by the research conducted by WeWorld – an organisation committed for 50 years to guaranteeing the rights of women, girls and children in 27 countries around the world, including Italy – as part of the new project SHAPE (SHaring Actions for the Participation and Empowerment of migrant communities and Local Authorities) co- funded by the European Fund AMIF (Transnational Actions on Asylum, Migration and Integration).
