LADDER Project: the job shadowing activity starts to bear fruit

As part of the LADDER project, Mateja Kvar from CAC – Croatian Association of Counties (Croatia) completed her job shadowing activity in Strasbourg, within ALDA office, and we gathered her feelings and achievements.

The project "LADDER – Local Authorities as Drivers for Development Education and Raising awareness" aims to develop and increase the action of Local Agencies in EU Development & Awareness Raising policies. It covers a range of activities and one of the dimensions is capacity building and peer-to-peer education. In order to achieve this goal, the project foresees a job shadowing involving all co-applicants of the consortium. The objective is to promote cooperation, to facilitate peer-to-peer learning, to increase and promote intercultural exchanges and learning.

The peer-to-peer learning mission has the intent of giving the opportunity to experts, civil servants, trainers, LAs staff and CSOs representatives of the consortium to participate in an exchange mission on DEAR-related issues, working with other “colleagues” in the field of development education.

“I am very satisfied with my choice to participate in LADDER activity. The main reason is that everyone in this office was making a great effort to organise some useful and interesting activities for me” Mateja declares in her final interview, saying that her Strasbourg colleagues made this short exchange extremely fruitful. In four days, she attended several meetings, including a “Training for teachers in the field of education for democracy” and the Monitoring plenary sessions in European Parliament, where local and national issues were discussed on a higher European level. She highlights that there were great opportunities to learn about the tools and techniques that can be used for development education and awareness raising in Croatia, where she works as coordinator for LADDER project activities within CAC. And she adds “I am ready to incorporate those approaches and tips, I received, on the operational level in my organisations”.

LADDER project is funded by EuropeAid, co-funded by the EU and includes 27 partners & 19 associates, coming from 18 EU and 17 non EU-countries.  Its major challenge is to contribute into Development Education and Awareness Raising (DEAR) programme.
