Health and Environment – Conference: Civic Observers and Local Authorities: Thematic focus on the role of civic observers and local authorities in the territory of the “Pact”

Mattia Brazzale, Assistant to Secretary General’s Office, participated to the conference Civic Observers and Local Authorities: Thematic focus on the role of civic observers and local authorities in the territory of the “Pact”, which was held in Naples, in Palazzo Salerno, on Saturday 28th November 2015.
Following the signature of the MoU foreseen by the Projet COHEIRS, between the civic observers, the local authorities of the territory, ALDA, ISBEM, and the representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the conference debated the current situation in the area located in the provinces of Naples and Caserta, where the civic observers are acting. Today there are 350 active civic observers, who are working with the municipalities, the prefecture and the police for fighting against waste fires, the protection of the environment and for raising awareness amongst local communities on the importance of responsible behaviours in waste management.
The conference gathered together around 90 representatives of CSOs, LAs and citizens of the territory concerned by the Pact. The conference was chaired by Mr Donato Cafagna vice Prefect and appointed by the Italian Ministry of Internal Affairs for waste fires in Campania Region. The other speakers were General Francesco Luigi De Leverano, Mr Domenico Tuccillo (President of ANCI Campania and Mayor of Afragola), Mr Fulvio Bonavitacola (Vice-President of Campania Region), Prof. Alessandro Distante (President of ISBEM) , Mr Raffaele Del Giudice (Deputy Mayor of Naples), Mr Stefano Vaccari (Italian Ministry for Agriculture), Mr Giovanni Corbetta (CEO of Ecopneus), and Mr Raffaele Scognamiglio (Coordinator of SMA Campania).
