ALDA in Tunisia for the PARFAIT mid-term conference

On November 14th a group of about 40 people, mostly women, gathered in Tunis, at the Hotel Africa, for the mid-term conference of the PARFAIT project.

PARFAIT is a project fostering women’s participation for the innovation and advancement of Tunisia, which aims at increasing women’s action at local level by giving them the means to fully access the public sphere.

The event, marked by a very enthusiastic and proactive public, saw the participation of local CSOs, as the regional organisation CAWTAR and the collective action association. Other relevant personalities from the local political scene joined the conference, in particular the president of the Commission for parity and equality of the Municipality of Tunis, the president of the Commission for participative democracy, governance and anti-corruption and a representative of the Ministry of women, family and childhood.
From the international side, the representative of the Congress of local and regional powers of the council of Europe, as well as a European delegation from France came to Tunis for the PARFAIT project.

All attendees declared themselves satisfied by the outcome of the conference, and they unanimously found very inspiring to listen to the voices of women beneficiaries of the programme. They shared experiences, focusing on both achievements and obstacles encountered during the past year, which led them to be elected and taking now part of their local political life.

New achievements and brilliant future perspectives for ALDA+

Almost at its second year of activity, ALDA +, the Benefit Corporation company within the umbrella of ALDA, is keeping its word and reaching a number of very important achievements and collaboration with local and international high profile companies.

The last months have been marked by two circumstances. Firstly, Sofia Corsi, project development officer at ALDA+, joined an exchange with Kristine Zonberga, director of “Civic Alliance – Latvia”.
The main goal of this Latvian association s to strengthen civil society in Latvia by providing support to common interests of NGOs and creating a favourable environment for associations and foundations to function. During the two visits, respectively in Vicenza and in Riga, CAL and ALDA could examine common points and differences between the two organizations and discuss on present funding opportunities and so lay the groundwork for a long-lasting collaboration.

Towards the end of the month, on October 30th, Annegret Wulff, Managing director of “Mitost Foundation” visited our offices in Vicenza, to deepen our reciprocal knowledge and exchange best practices.
Mitost is a German Foundation, based in Berlin, that ALDA met the first time in 2017, when they funded a capacity building exchange programme, the Civil Society Exchange, which would bring together European and Turkish CSOs, and in which Sofia Corsi participated as representative of ALDA.

As Mitost and ALDA share a very similar mission and geographical focus, the objectives of this meeting were to explore potential cooperation paths between the two organizations, get to know different co-funding opportunities for ALDA, by drawing inspiration from Mitost’s funding structure.
Both Mitost and ALDA have been highly satisfied by the experience, which surely represents a milestone for a long-lasting collaboration.

The Romanian municipality of Ramnicu Sarat, hosted the third coordination meeting of the SW-UP project, which took place on Tuesday 12th and Wednesday 13th of November, 2018.
SW-UP is a project that started in January 2018 and will finish in June 2019 with the aim of promoting women-friendly urban environment for outdoor sport activities. This objective will be reached by drafting guidelines, creating a community of practice and putting in place pilot women-friendly outdoor activities.

The first day of the coordination meeting was dedicated to share and exchange suggestions on pilot programs, which have been currently implemented by partners from Spain, Italy, Romania and Portugal. On the following day, partners were engaged with various activities, among which the SWUP general evaluation, the online forum, debates, a session to share plans for future multiplier events and for the final event to be held in Brussels in June 2019.

During this first phase of the SW-UP project partners have organized a wide range of activities within their pilot programs. They offered courses characterized by women-friendly schedule (for example during lunch time for employed women), strategic locations (close to work places or in the same building where women’s children play sport), children related services (surveyed playground for children nearby the course venue) and strong feel of belonging and mutual aid. Thanks to these measures, a genuine SW-UP mania took place in Corbetta (IT) and in Granollers (SP), where involved women couldn’t hide their enthusiasm!

Concerning future activities, Portuguese partners will propose story telling sessions in order to raise awareness around women who play sport despite many obstacles, from a busy life, to the presence of a disease or an advanced age. Sharing the pilot programs allowed partners to receive feedbacks and exchange ideas.
