Marco Boaria, Head of the Resources and Development Unit of ALDA, participated to the 17th EU-NGO Human Rights Forum, held in Brussels on 3rd and 4th December.

The EU-NGO Forum on Human Rights is an annual conference providing a venue for direct interaction and in-depth discussion among representatives of global civil society and the EU institutions, EU Member States and international organizations on various topics related to the promotion and protection of human rights. The Forum is jointly organized by the European External Action Service and the European Commission, in cooperation with the Human Rights and Democracy Network (HRDN). The topic of this year’s Forum was “Protecting and Promoting Civil Society Space”.

The occasion served as a platform for an interactive exchange and genuine debate, offering both key note speeches and opportunities for exchange and debates among participants.

In particular, Marco Boaria participated in the working group addressing freedom of peaceful assembly and participation. Active participation of civil society is crucial for inclusive and participatory governance. Civil society organizations, citizens and social movements need to be able to come together and utilize public space. ALDA brought to the fore its experience in this field, highlighting the importance of a multi-stakeholder and participative approach to address these important challenges.

The Forum was closed by Federica Mogherini, High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.
