To help communities explore their own local cohesion challenges and develop appropriate integration and cohesion measures, ALDA and its partners are currently implementing CRISCO: CROSSROAD OF REGIONS – FOSTERING INVOLVEMENT OF ALL CITIZENS IN LOCAL LIFE TO IMPROVE SOCIAL COHESION project, focused on improving mutual understanding and intercultural dialogue between communities of different origins living together in European towns.

On 14-16 March, CRISCO project held its first transnational meeting where 50 citizens participated, representatives of civils society and local authorities from 10 different countries. The transnational event was organized and chaired by Bassano del Grappa, with the support of all partners, particularly ALDA and Etterbeek and focused on the theme: “Cultural and social barriers to integration».

During the 3 days, the partner organisations shared local best practices to address socio-cultural barriers to integration at the local level. The plenary session presenting the best practices was attended by over 50 local representatives from Bassano (officials, NGOs, citizens, experts, etc.). The international participants took part also in cross-fertilizing activities to discover each other institutions’ and work, creative workshops such as the Dance Well class and discussed in depth on how to transfer/scale up the good practices presented. Bassano del Grappa showcased existing local integration initiatives and offered the opportunity to the local and international participants to exchange.

During the project lifetime and beyond, ALDA will support CRISCO towns and their citizens to experiment new or consolidate existing integration initiatives and, by doing so, gain empowerment and become long-lasting actors and ’ambassadors’ of an enhanced social cohesion in Europe.
