The call for volunteers of the FromMEtoEU project is out!

Are you between 18-30 years old? Are you living in Brussels? Do you want to be involved in an EU project for a more inclusive society?
You can have the opportunity to join the FromMe2EU Project by helping us in collecting interviews to understand the needs of EU citizens and migrants! ALDA, as a partner of the FromMEtoEU project, is looking for 5 volunteers for September and October 2019!
As a volunteer, you will be involved in the following actions:
• Collection of interviews to migrants and EU citizens
• Weekly meeting with the other volunteers and the Project Manager of ALDA to discuss your progress
• Supporting the organization of the Local Workshop in October 2019 Co-creation of a video to disseminate the findings of the interviews all over Europe, and beyond
Moreover, through your participation, you will have the chance to win a trip to Italy to join us at the Final Event in January 2020 along with all the other project participants.
The FromMEtoEU project aims at creating opportunities for European citizens and migrants’ communities to work together, to promote a new idea of multicultural Europe. The project will provide citizens with a pathway to awareness about the positivity of solidarity, and by leading them to maximize social collaboration while combating scepticism in refugees reception programs (and Euroscepticism too!). The idea that we support is that every migrant should be considered as an EU citizen! If you would like to meet new people and to promote intercultural dialogue between newcomers and local residents…
Apply now! You have time until the 25th of August!

ALDA condoles with Tunisia for the loss of President Essebsi

ALDA condoles with the Tunisian people and the international community for the loss, some days ago, of Mr Beji Caid Essebsi, who served as President of Tunisia until his very last day after a long career in Tunisian politics holding several high-level offices.
In the words of ALDA Vice-President Mr Alessandro Perelli, “Mr Beji Caid Essebsi leaves a great void in the democratic community of Mediterranean Africa and the European Union.” ALDA, which is always at the forefront for the promotion of democratic rights and European values, has opened in 2017 in Kairouan (Tunisia) the first Local Democracy Agency in Mediterranean Africa, putting itself at the side of the democratization and development efforts made by the Tunisian community, particularly with respect to critical issues such as gender equality, religious freedom, defence of minorities and active citizenship.
We have no doubt that Tunisia will continue on its democratic path, also through further strengthening of the institutional and financial cooperation with the European Union.

Youth Compact: Year one, what did we do?

The first year of our project “Regional Youth Compact for Europe” is over and it’s time to look back at what we’ve done.
The first year was marked by 6 international and regional events and local activities in 11 communities.
Kick off
Everything started with the kick-off meeting in Belgrade, a training for the network members and a kick-off event and a study visit to the National Convention on the European Union. These events served as opportunities to create a functional team and to establish a good cooperation.
Youth compact going regional!
Organizacija First Regional Thematic Network Forum i Annual Conference of the ALDA – Western Balkans Network for Local Democracy in Tirana gathered more than 80 participants engaged in the furthering of the European accession processes of the Western Balkans countries. Training is essential! Balkan youngsters had a few opportunities to developed their skills during the International workshop “Rule of law and fundamental rights” in Mostar and the POLITEIA Western Balkan School for Youth Participation in Danilovgrad. 50 youngsters were trained on different topics and returned to their countries eager to share the experience with their peers.
Do it locally!
11 local activities were organized in the form of “Community multi stakeholder’s platforms”. They had many formats, such as meetings, debates, presentations and discussions, but they shared the same goal: to create a dialogue among CSOs and youth organizations with local government, public and private sector. They addressed the need to create more cross sector perspective in addressing the reforms implementation. More than 180 stakeholders took part in the activities.
All in All!
The project provoked the interest in the region by gathering more than 360 direct beneficiaries coming from different sectors, as representatives of local business, CSOs, local authorities, citizens and youngsters, who then shared their experiences in their communities.
The project “Regional Youth Compact for Europe” is implemented by the Center for Democracy Foundation, the Balkan Network for Local Democracy, CRTA, Youth Act and Sodem. This project is funded by the European Union and the Balkan Trust for Democracy, a project of the German Marshall Fund of the United States.

Youth and Civic Engagement in the Eastern Partnership: back to (summer) school!

Something has been going on for Eastern Partnership youth in Georgia! And ALDA, with the LDA Georgia, was really proud to be part of it!
In Kutaisi (Georgia), from the 19th to the 25th of July, a consortium of stakeholders, active in the field of democracy and civic engagement, amongst which the Eastern Partnership Civil Society Forum and the National Endowment for Democracy has organised a Summer School aimed at developing the ability of the youth living in the eastern partnership countries to analyse and assess the needs in terms of civic engagement of their societies and at putting in place the most appropriate measures to tackle them.
The idea behind a Summer School with such a specific target comes from the consideration that only youth itself can foster its engagement, reason why it has to be provided with the right tools for analysis and action. With this in mind, the training sessions brought together a diverse set of trainers and methodologies, to better cover the broad spectrum of possible angles and approaches to these issues: case study presentations, open mic discussions and lectures will be some of the learning moments that the participants took part in.
Finally, during the summer school, the youth participants have learnt about the opportunities and support for youth education provided by the European Union, other donors, and project partners; and a further goal that the Summer School achieved was the creation of cross-border connections among peers which could then continue to be used as a resource once the summer school has concluded.

CLINK - the future of cultural heritage in the Balkans and the rest of Europe

During the General Assembly of ALDA in May, representatives of the EU, LDAs and their partners had a chance to meet and discuss the issue of cultural heritage preservation in their home nations as a part of the CLINK framework. This dialogue took place on the 15th and 16th of May 2019 in Caen and was held between eighty representatives from Croatia, France, Greece, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Montenegro, and Albania. The main focus of the debate was the citizens’ participation in the preservation and promotion of cultural heritage in the attendees’ communities. The outcome at the end of the discussion was a draft of action steps and recommendations aiming at improving the implementation of individual projects on the local level. Some of the main recommendations included strategies to help the NGOs create strategic partnerships with their local stakeholders, creating summer schools and other programs for youngsters to help secure and retain acknowledgment of their cultural heritage, or ideas and good case practices to secure the financial support needed to run these activities.

The APProach digital ecosystem is in full swing!

Do you remind our project APProach? Not only the project is still on-going, but it is at its peak!
At the beginning of the year, all partners cities implemented focus groups, inviting both EU mobile citizens residing in the city and local authorities’ staff working in contact with EU mobile citizens to share their perspectives on tips to improve the inclusion of EU mobile citizens in local life. This better understanding of the local contexts has been the core impulse for the development of the APProach’s digital ecosystem. Thus, GMV, IT company in charge, shared the progresses made on the architecture, design and user-experience of the digital ecosystem during the mid-term meeting which took place in Lisbon from 10 to 12 July.
After laying the foundation of the digital platform, both partners cities and IT company are working together to produce its beta version, which will be tested in a second round of focus groups this Autumn in all municipalities!
In order to get always more detailed information, the APProach project also launched an online survey on the actual experiences and needs of EU mobile citizens living in the target cities of the project (Etterbeek, Lisbon, Milan, Nea Smyrni, Paris, Vejle, Amsterdam, Warsaw).
Share with us your experience as EU mobile citizen and fill in the survey at ovaj link!. The survey is available in all the languages of the involved cities: English, French, Portuguese, Italian, Greek, Danish, Dutch & Polish.

APProach is a project co-funded by the European Union’s Rights, Equality and Citizenship programme that aims at facilitating the circulation of information towards EU mobile citizens for them to effectively exercise their rights in their welcoming city. The cities partner to the project Etterbeek (Belgium), Milan (Italy), Nea Smyrni (Greece), Paris (France), Vejle (Denmark), Lisbon (Portugal) and associate to the project Amsterdam (Netherlands) and Warsaw (Poland) will contribute to the design of a digital ecosystem where guidelines and information for EU mobile citizens will be found in one place.
