Representatives of ALDA are participating in various events on civil society and citizen participation which are taking place in Brussels during this week. On 15th June, Aldo Xhani attended the Civil Dialogue meeting where participants discussed the policy developments related to the Citizenship portfolio and the “Europe for Citizens” Programme.

This event was followed by the annual Civil Society Day on the 16th June. This year’s event, which held a title “Civil dialogue: a tool for better legislation in the general interest” aimed at laying down principles and guidelines for a permanent and structured civil dialogue at European level. The work of the conference was based on the Road Map that had been adopted at the NGO Forum in Riga in March 2015 and focused on how to implement it through specific actions.

ALDA also regularly follows the events on European Citizens’ Initiative and was present on the conference titled as “The European citizens’ initiative and the promise of participatory democracy” on the 16th June. The aim of the conference was to inform about ECI, analyze its weaknesses and place the instrument in the broader context of European participatory democracy and growing citizen expectations for more direct involvement in public policy, including via digital platforms.
