Shorena Khukhua is a member of ALDA’s Governing Board, representing Kutaisi City Municipality, Georgia, working as a head of foreign relations and international projects department.
She is a Civil Servant and invited lecturer. Within her work she has gained a rich experience in working with state, international, local and NGO sector. Kutaisi City Municipality is a partner of ALDA since 2006. During these years ALDA together with Kutaisi City Municipality actively cooperated in different spheres, planned and implemented several projects, sharing experience and best practices
Due to Ms Khukhua’s work she is responsible for the international affairs of the city as well as International Projects. Coordinating the issues such as civil society participation, citizens involvement in decision making process, formatting advisory board and organizing population forums.
Ms Khukhua believes that citizens’ involvement in the activities of local self-government in Georgia is one of the most important issues in Georgia today. It has an important place in the process of self-governance reform. It is noteworthy that local self-governance is the closest institution with citizens, the best level for citizens participation, because every decision affects the daily lives of citizens. She believes that together with ALDA it is possible to promote good governance and citizens active participation in local level which will raise support to the democratic institutions in Europe and neighborhood.
