Are you interested in understanding how the universe of European funds works? Do you have a project idea in mind but you don’t know how to realize it? Do you want to know if there are European funds that can finance your activities?

We invite you to participate in the information evening on ALDA’s courses on euro-planning, which will be held at our headquarters in Vicenza, Viale Milano 66, next Tuesday, December 15! During the meeting will also be presented the courses promoted by ALDA in the field of Europlanning.

Objectives of the evening

Introduce ourselves: tell you who we are, how we work and why our trainings in Europlanning have a particular added value
Introduce the topic: the EU is a complex system and its panorama of European funds is extremely vast and sometimes difficult to understand. We would like, in extreme synthesis, to clarify some fundamental points to help you and orient you in this universe
Presenting our training courses: We offer many different courses in terms of:
– objectives (general information on the EU world and its funds, specific training for those who want to build projects and know how to manage them)
– types (basic course, advanced course, course on financial management of EU projects, ad hoc courses on specific funding programs, etc.)
– methodologies (face-to-face lessons, group workshops)
Answering your questions: Before starting a training course it is important to understand if it will potentially meet our expectations. Therefore, we will be happy to answer your doubts and curiosity, in order to help you understand if our courses can meet your needs and if so, which of the proposed courses may be right for you.

From 1st to 4th December 2015, the second Special Initiative of LADDER project with focus on the Eastern Partnership was held in Georgia. The event was organised by NALAG in cooperation with ALDA and UBBSLA, and it was structured in 3 phases.

In the first phase all partners and other participants met in Tbilisi for a one-day conference, which represented the occasion to present the project of LADDER. The opening ceremony was delivered by Mr Stephan Stork – Head of Operations of EU Delegation to Georgia, Mr David Melua – Director of NALAG, and Mrs Imislawa Gorska – Vice-President of ALDA.

Mrs Antonella Valmorbida, Secretary General of ALDA, presented the LADDER approach, the goals and the global dimension of the project. “LADDER is not just a project – she stated – but a family, and each one of us has a specific role to play, in order to achieve results locally and globally”. This session was also animated by some representatives of LADDER partnership, namely Mrs Mariana Ivanova from UBBSLA – the Bulgarian Black Sea Local Authorities, Mrs Natalia Shovkoplias from UTCS –the Union of Towns and Cities of Slovakia, Mr Dmitriy Sokol from Lev Sapieha Foundation of Belarus, and Mr David Melua, Director of NALAG.

The first-day conference also included a meeting of the Eastern Partnership Working Group, where challenges and solutions related to the eastern area were discussed, and an intensive plenary session with three panels focusing on: the role of Local Authorities in promoting Development Education and Awareness Raising; Development Education in EaP countries and role of the civil sector; and summing up of the plenary.

In the second phase of the Special Initiative, the participants were split in thematic groups and different locations. The climate and energy efficiency was held in Borjomi, migration issues in Kutaisi and sustainable agriculture in Telavi.

Coordinated by Mrs Natalia Shovkoplias from UTCS, the team in Borjomi discussed best practices from the municipalities of Slovakia and Georgia in terms of good management of resources with a respectful approach to nature, energy efficiency and sustainability were presented. The two days of intensive work were concluded by a brainstorming session and the drafting of recommendations.

The thematic group “Migration and Mobility – a challenge or an opportunity for local development” took place in Kutaisi, and was coordinated by Mrs Nino Tvaltvadze, Delegate of the LDA Georgia. Representatives of Georgian Local Authorities contributed to the debate and addressed migration and mobility from the Georgian perspective with a particular attention on how to raise awareness on these topics. The group also visited a Migrants information centre, learning how migration is addressed at the local level.

The workshops working on “Sustainable Agriculture – success models for rural municipalities” in Telavi, was coordinated by Mr David Melua, Director of NALAG. The activities focused on good practices of municipalities from rural areas of Belarus and Georgia about sustainable agriculture, with a site visit to the “Cooperative Shuman vine” that produces local Georgian wine.

The third phase of the Special Initiative regathered together all participants in Tbilisi, on the fourth and last day of activities. During the last session all thematic groups shared findings and conclusions with the rest of the participants and discussed the next steps of the EaP Path.

Agenda of the Special Initiative

In the framework of the “Advanced Volunteer Management” project, Youth Centre BIT and South East European Youth Network organised a training in Crnomelj (Slovenia), held on 23-31 October 2015.

Local Democracy Agency Sisak, which operates with the Volunteer Centre Sisak, participated as project partner and was represented by its volunteer Matea Vipotnik.

The 7-day training gathered 25 participants from 18 European countries, which gained advanced competences in managing volunteers in different projects, activities and daily tasks of their organisations at local, national and international level. Topics such as active local participation, improvement of voluntary system, knowledge sharing, networking with different cultures, conflict management and many other, were object of the training, carried out through interactive and group workshops conducted by the trainers Domagoj Kovačić, Milica Žarković and Aleksandra Saška Gligorović.

Matea Vipotnik shared her positive training experience: “I gained a lot of information and “tricks” on how to learn something new in short time. Trainers were excellent and managed to maintain our focus even on less interested topics. I was particularly pleased with group work, which helped me to process new information much better; I learnt a lot about volunteering in other countries and about existing similarities in volunteer management between Croatia and other countries. Besides the learning part, we had a lot of fun and time to get to know each other. We “Balkan people” already developed a new project planning to apply for funding next year – Feel the Balkan Pulse".

The training was funded by the European Commission, Erasmus+ Program, Key Activity 1.

The President of ALDA, Oriano Otočan, the Secretary General, Antonella Valmorbida, and the Head of the Resources and Development Unit, Marco Boaria, participated on 2nd December to the General Assembly of EPD, the European Partnership for Democracy. EPD is a non-profit organisation supporting democracy worldwide, and has been extensively cooperating with ALDA in the last two years.

The meeting foresaw the establishment of a new legal entity based in Brussels, due to the decision of EPD to change its legal status and headquarters – from a Dutch Foundation to a Belgian NGO. Besides the new formal status, the meeting represented the opportunity to exchange and discuss about the future strategy of the EPD community – encompassing nowadays nine relevant European associations (NIMD, Club de Madrid, DEMO Finland, EESC, People in need, ECP, ECES, Elbarlament) – and to confirm a joint commitment towards democracy as a value to be promoted and “implemented” worldwide.

The General Assembly of the “new” organization also elected the members of its Governing Board: Mrs Valmorbida, on behalf of ALDA, was elected as Board member, together with other 6 representatives of the other organizations: her role in the board will further strengthen the contribution of ALDA in the field of democracy. Mr Hans Bruning was reconfirmed President of EPD while Mr Ken Godfrey was reconfirmed in his position of Executive Director.

L’ALDA à l’Assemblée générale du EPD – Partenariat européen pour la démocratie

Le Président de l’ALDA, Oriano Otočan, la Secrétaire Générale, Antonella Valmorbida, et le Directeur de l’Unité des Ressources et Développement, Marco Boaria, ont participé le 2 décembre à l’Assemblée générale du Partenariat européen pour la démocratie. EPD est une organisation à but non lucratif soutenant la démocratie dans le monde entier, et qui a coopérer considérablement avec l’ALDA ces deux dernières années.

La réunion prévoit l’établissement d’une nouvelle entité légale basée à Bruxelles, en raison de la décision d’EPD de changer son statut légal et son siège – d’une Fondation néerlandaise à une ONG belge. Hormis le nouveau statut formel, la réunion représente l’opportunité d’échanger et de débattre de la future stratégie de la communauté EPD – englobant actuellement neuf associations européennes pertinentes (NIMD, Club de Madrid, DEMO Finland, EESC, People in need, ECP, ECES, Elbarlament) – ainsi que pour confirmer un engagement commun envers la démocratie en tant que valeur qui doit être promue et « mise en œuvre » au niveau mondial.

L’Assemblée Générale de la « nouvelle » organisation a aussi élu les membres de son Conseil d’administration : Mme Valmorbida, au nom de l’ALDA, a été élue en tant que membre du Conseil, avec 6 autres représentants d’autres organisations : son rôle dans le Conseil renforcera la contribution de l’ALDA dans le domaine de la démocratie. M. Hans Bruning a été reconduit dans son poste de Président d’EPD alors que M. Ken Godfrey a été reconduit dans sa position de Directeur exécutif.

ALDA all’Assemblea Generale di EPD

Lo scorso 2 dicembre, il Presidente di ALDA, Oriano Otočan, il Segretario Generale, Antonella Valmorbida, e il Responsabile dell’Unità Risorse e Sviluppo, Marco Boaria, hanno partecipato all’Assemblea Generale di EPD (European Partnership for Democracy). EPD, organizzazione no-profit che promuove la democrazia a livello mondiale, ha collaborato ampliamente con ALDA negli ultimi due anni.

Il meeting ha previsto l’istituzione di una nuova entità legale a Bruxelles, in seguito alla decisione da parte di EPD di cambiare il proprio status giuridico e la propria sede principale (da fondazione olandese a ONG belga). Oltre al nuovo status formale, la riunione ha rappresentato l’opportunità di dibattere e discutere della futura strategia della comunità di EPD, comunità che ad oggi include ben 9 importanti associazioni europee (NIMD, Club de Madrid, DEMO Finland, EESC, People in need, ECP, ECES, Elbarlament), e di confermare l’impegno comune per la democrazia come valore da promuovere ed “implementare” a livello mondiale.

Durante l’Assemblea Generale sono stati eletti anche i membri del Direttivo: Antonella Valmorbida, in rappresentanza di ALDA, è stata eletta nel Consiglio di Amministrazione insieme ad altri sei rappresentanti di differenti organizzazioni. Il suo ruolo nel Direttivo sarà quello di rafforzare ulteriormente il contributo di ALDA nel campo della democrazia. Hans Bruning è stato riconfermato Presidente di EPD, mentre Ken Godfrey è stato riconfermato nel suo ruolo di Direttore Esecutivo.

ALDA на Генеральной Ассамблее EPD

Президент ALDA Ориано Оточан, Генеральный секретарь Антонелла Вальморбида и начальник отдела ресурсов и развития Марко Боариа приняли участие Генеральной Ассамблее  EPD (Европейского Партнерства для демократии). EPD является некоммерческой организацией поддерживающей демократию по всему миру и являющейся активным партнером Ассоциации на протяжении последних двух лет.

В рамках встречи было предусмотрено учреждение нового юридического лица, в связи с решением  EPD изменить статус и головной офис преобразуясь из Нидерландского фонда в Бельгийскую НПО. Помимо представления нового статуса, встреча стала площадкой для обмена мнениями и обсуждения будущей стратегии сообщества EPD, состоящего на данный момент из девяти важных Европейских Ассоциаций (NIMD, Club de Madrid, DEMO Finland, EESC, People in need, ECP, ECES, Elbarlament), которые единогласно признают значимость демократии как ценности, а также осознают важность работы по ее продвижению во всех странах мира.

На генеральной Ассамблее новой организации были избраны члены ее правления. Так, г-жа Вальморбида, представляющая  ALDA, была избрана членом правления наряду с 6 представителями других организаций. Роль Генерального секретаря ALDA в правлении организации будет способствовать дальнейшему укреплению вкладу Ассоциации в продвижения демократии. За г-ном Хансом Брунинг была утверждена роль Президента EPD, в то время как за г-ном Кеном Годфри — позиция исполнительного директора.

ALDA na Generalnoj skupštini EPD

Predsednik ALDA , Oriano Otočan, generalni sekretar, Antonella Valmorbida  i šef jedinice za resurse i razvoj, Marco Boaria, učestvovali su 2. decembra na Generalnoj skupštini EPD, Evropskog partnerstva za demokratiju. EPD je neprofitna organizacija koja podržava demokratiju širom sveta i intenzivno sarađuje sa ALDA u poslednje dve godine.

Na sastanku je predvidjeno uspostavljanje novog pravnog lica sa sedištem u Briselu, zbog odluke EPD da promeni svoj pravni status i sedište – od holandske fondacije u belgijsku NVO. Pored novog formalnog statusa, sastanak je predstavljao priliku za razmenu i diskusiju o budućoj strategiji EPD zajednice – koja obuhvata danas devet relevantih evropskih asocijacija (NIMD , Club de Madrid , DEMO Finska, EESK, People in need, ECP, ECES, Elbarlament) – i potvrdu zajedničkoj posvećenosti demokratiji kao vrednosti koja treba da se promoviše i “sprovodi” širom sveta.

Generalna skupština “nove” organizacije takođe je izabrala članove svog Upravnog odbora, tako je Antonella Valmorbida, u ime ALDA, izabran je za člana odbora, zajedno sa predstavnicima 6 drugih organizacija i njena uloga u odboru će dodatno ojačati doprinos ALDA u oblasti demokratije. Hans Bruning je potvrdio svoje mesto predsednika EPD dok je Ken Godfri potvrđen na  svojoj poziciji izvršnog direktora.

The European Association for Local Democracy (ALDA) is offering an internship position as Project Manager Assistant for its office in Strasbourg, France. The intern will work under the supervision of ALDA’s Head of Programme Implementation and the Programme Manager for the MENA region. We encourage applications under the Erasmus Placement grant for non-French University related applicants or any similar grant.

Main Tasks and Responsibilities:

• Contributing to projects management, implementation and logistical support;
• Research and analysis work;
• Support to administrative tasks related to the Office’s needs;
• Writing articles for ALDA’s website and reports for internal use;
• Participating in meetings for ALDA;
• Participation in drafting project proposals, writing interim and final reports for on-going projects;
• Translations into French and English and other possible language

Knowledge, skills and abilities:

• Master student with background in International Relations, International or European decentralized Cooperation or Political Science;
• Interest and knowledge of the political and social context in North Africa;
• Excellent knowledge of French and English. Knowledge of a third European language is an asset;
• Ability to work in a small team as well as a demonstrated autonomy and initiative;
• Capacity for synthesis, analysis and writing;
• Previous experience or training in project management or communication is an asset;
• Interest in issues of local democracy and participatory and active citizenship;
• Strong motivation for European cooperation;
• Proficient use of processing tools such as the Office package (Word, Power Point, Excel required);
