Think globally, act locally: Empowering young people

After two days focusing on empowering young people and enabling them to have a better understanding of the content regarding rule of law and fundamental rights, the international workshop “Rule of law and fundamental rights – why is it important for the youth and how youth can contribute to monitor reforms in these fields” organized in Mostar, has successfully finished. Around 20 youngsters had opportunity to follow a series of workshops and be part of different activities.

The European union was in one of the major topics discussed throughout the workshop, particularly the set of values, standards and principles that one country should have in order to became a member. The conclusion was that the countries should strive to implement the EU directives and regulations firstly for their own benefit and afterwards as a condition to EU accession.

The youngsters had the opportunity to express their opinion regarding fundamental rights by critical analysis of their own countries and in comparison to the others. The outcome of this workshop was gaining knowledge for the situation on the Western Balkans regarding this questions on the one hand and creating a set of recommendations on the other.

The international workshop “Rule of law and fundamental rights – why is it important for the youth and how youth can contribute to monitor reforms in these fields was organized in the framework of the project “Regional youth compact for Europe”, which is implemented by the Center for Democracy Foundation, Balkan Network for Local Democracy, CRTA, Youth Act and Sodem. Citizens in action for the future of the European Union thanks to WISE Project!

One year has passed from the launching conference of the project WISE – While Innovating and Strengthening Europe, in Rome. ***
Want to see what the project partners did in the past year? Have a look at the video of the project! The local path has followed the same implementation in all the 16 countries involved: 16 countries, 25 participants per event, 3 events per country:

#1 – EU LEARN: How could you think about something that you don’t know? That’s why all the partners focused the first activity on raising awareness about the history and the functioning of the European Union, using participatory and non-formal tools
#2 – EU REFLECT: Nothing is perfect, but all together we can always improve the situation! Once the participants have learned more about the European Union they have started the reflection on the challenges and the next steps of this big amazing project that the EU is. World cafés, open discussions, surveys and role plays are only few of the participatory tools that have been used.
#3 – EU ACT: Don’t lose time complaining! Playing an active role in finding solutions is way more interesting! All the citizens involved in the project implementation have been working on producing outputs and innovative way to foster EU understanding and to improve citizens’ participations all over enlarged Europe. Games, theatre plays, recommendations, campaigns, manifestos, quiz and much more!

On 14th March the REDE LDBC Lisboa, the Portuguese partner of the WISE Project, hosted its final international conference, where MEP candidates, representatives of the EU Institutions as well as representatives of local authorities, civil society organizations and citizens discussed about the challenges identified during the implementation of the local processes: European citizenship meaning, Erasmus as a fundamental experience, the unknown daily impact of the EU in our life, the “drain brain” issue and obviously the upcoming European Elections. 2019 is the last year of the project and the project partners are now working on the production of the final E-publication that will collect and present all the participatory tools used and elaborated during the implementation of the project. Training on ICT as a tool for inclusive communities

From the 25th till the the 28th of March, educators from the Mind Inclusion 2.0 consortium of partners will meet at the headquarters of INTRAS Foundation in Valladolid (Spain) for a training on the use of co-creative methodologies to engage disabled people in the local community.

Why? Mind Inclusion 2.0 is a EU-funded project addressing the difficulties and barriers that often prevent people with disabilities from feeling at ease in public spaces. In order to tackle this challenge, 6 among NGOs, research entities and companies from 4 European countries are working together to co-design with disabled people an easy-to-use web platform where places and activities that are inclusive for all can be found and reviewed by users.
This training will provide skills on two main topics. The first one is about how to engage potential users to be part of local action groups. The second one is on how to correctly use the platform and transfer these skills to end-users and other stakeholders. Both of them are keys to ensure the durability and transferability of the tools and competences developed by the project.
Skills such as assertive communication, ICT, moderation, co-design will be acquired by participants for the best implementation of the MIND INCLUSION 2.0 Co-creation Methodology. The training will be interactive and will give the trainees the opportunity to put immediately in practice the methodologies and tools provided within the group. Stay updated on our FB page to have live news from the training!

Enlarging the LDA's network in Northern Morocco

ALDA is proudly enlarging its Local Democracy Agencies’ network in Northern Morocco, in order to strengthen its cooperation with European Neighbourhood Countries, thus boosting democracy, promoting good governance, and encouraging citizens’ participation at local level. This is an extraordinary path to build good relationships in the Euro-Mediterranean region, which is a strategic basin for enforcing concrete cooperation.

Supported by international partners, such as the Fons Mallorqui e ORU Fogar, ALDA welcomed the opportunity to collaborate with four municipalities in the Moroccan region of Tanger-Tétouan-Al Hoceima, in view of the future opening of an LDA in the region.

Waiting for the LDA Northern Morocco to become operational in the following months, ALDA’s representatives met the mayors of four Maroccan cities – Tétouan, Tanger, Chefchaouen and Larache – in Tétouan, from the 27th of February to the 2nd of March. All mayors are fostering the initiative to open a Local Democracy Agency in Tétouan – with focal points in the other three municipalities involved, in order to collaborate and jointly work on specific issues particularly affecting the region.

All activities will be carried out with the participation of both international and national partners, among which there are some of the most relevant CSOs working on that area.
