On Saturday, May 12, 2018, ALDA organized in Strasbourg a training at the Lieu d’Europe for a dozen of young women from Strasbourg. This training took place in the framework of the Wom-Com project (Erasmus+). This project, in which most of the partners are from the Eastern Balkans, aims to explore, through youth exchanges and local activities, the topics of intercultural learning, women’s solidarity, assertive communication through art, and more specifically – street art.

The objective of the workshop was to introduce the participants to these topics, but also to allow them to have a first experience with graffiti techniques, in view of the creation of a collective mural in Strasbourg in October 2018. The participants could therefore exchange on the idea of culture and they addressed questions such as the existence of a universal culture or a universal form of communication between women, and the topic of cultural codes and freedom of expression (for example through the dress code imposed to women).

The graffiti workshop that followed allowed to illustrate the previous exchanges: the participants were introduced to some graffiti techniques and created individual paintings, which, put together, finally formed the word “Solidarité” (Solidarity). The participants also voted for their favourite murals from existing artworks. The young women participating to the forthcoming youth exchange in Hvar (18-27 May) will then submit them to the other participants of the exchange as “Good Practices” selected by the Strasbourg’s team.
