ALDA is officially partner of the first European Citizens’ Initiative (ECI) campaign on migration, “We are a Welcoming Europe, let us help!”. The initiative is the outcome of a long and fruitful collaboration between EU migration and civil society NGOs, coordinated by Migration Policy Group for the EU NGO Platform on Asylum and Migration (EPAM), whose synergy resulted in the creation of a coalition of over 170 organizations across Europe.

ALDA and its members see the urge to support the ECI in this initiative and to engage in order to contribute to the transformation and the improvement of the actual European migration policy.

The #WelcomingEurope campaign aims at securing 1 million signatures and obtaining public support by February 2019 so that the European Parliament will be obliged to offer a public hearing and the European Commission will have to respond to the proposal.
We remind that the European Citizens’ Initiative (ECI) is the most visible and legally binding tool for direct democracy in Europe. “Today, we, the citizens of Europe, are raising our voices to change the discourse on migration and build a Europe that welcomes those in need and reflects our principles of solidarity, dignity and human rights.” Click on the ECI website to get more information about the ECI campaign and sign the petition!
