As part of the local process within the WE-NET project, the Fons Menorquí and the Centre de Formació de Professorat de Menorca, in collaboration with local schools, are now putting in practice the educational materials developed during the “Reducing our Co2 Emisions” workshop.

***
In November 2016, representatives of two organisations and local school teachers participated in the workshop, aimed to raise awareness and provide information on climate change to ten primary education schools in Menorca. The participants covered several debates that affect their local community:

  1. waste and climate change
  2. food and climate change
  3. mobility and climate change
  4. energy and climate change

In addition, the presence of the delegate of the department of Madriz was also an opportunity to reflect on the issue on a cross-regional perspective.

As a result, two main successful outcomes were achieved. Firstly, six new teaching proposals were elaborated in order to work about climate change in ten schools of Menorca (involving around 2900 students). Secondly, the issue of circular economy was incorporated within such new teaching proposals in the same schools and now have been implemented in practice since January 2017.

The activity is part of the local path in Spain of the project WE-NET – Working for ENvironmentally Educated Towns. The initiative, supported by the Europe for Citizens program, aims at promoting knowledge transfer on environmental, sustainable development and citizen mobilization issues. It reunites local authorities and civil society associations from eight countries across the wider Europe committed to establish a platform of structured cooperation for exchanging knowledge, experience and good practice to promote successful communities at the local level.
