The first national training event of LADDER project took place in Zichy Palace, Bratislava, on 10-11 November 2015.

In accordance with the LADDER vision of “Local Authorities and Civil Society Organizations working at local level, understood as multipliers, can make an essential change, which will improve citizens life”, the Union of Towns and Cities of Slovakia (UTCS) helps their members and CSOs’ partners to build their capacity and to share experiences of their members with a wide network at national and international level. The UTCS will involve their members and CSOs’ partners in several LADDER training activities that help them to better understand the EU development policy, especially in the field of Global and Development education, namely raising awareness of citizens about development issues. The project LADDER will be implemented at national level under the auspices of Ivo Nesrovnal, Lord Mayor of Bratislava, the Capital city of Slovakia, and the President of UTCS.
The topic “Development cooperation and Slovakia programs for 2014 – 2018: challenges and opportunities for local authorities and civil society organizations” was presented by Mr. Mlynar, Director of the Department of Development and Humanitarian Aid of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs SR.
Jakub Zaludko, Project Coordinator of the EYD2015 in Slovakia, representative of Slovak NGDO Platform, had a speech about the European Year of Development (EYD2015), involving Slovak citizens in Europe’s vision of global development, including Slovak Global Education week.
During the Panel Discussion, some key players and experts in the DEAR issues in Slovakia, approached the issue of Development Education in Slovakia, focusing on specifics, trends and challenges for Local Authorities and civil society organizations. The national training event involved presentations of good practices, discussions and participative methodologies. Participants were encouraged to work in groups to share views in specific LADDER issues such as migration, citizen participation, energy efficiency and adaptation to climate change.
More than 40 participants attended the 2-days training event. They represented the municipalities, Bratislava, Trencin and Prešov self-government regions, Universities, research centres, and non-government organisations.
