ALDA is organizing an international event on 6th June, in the frame of the project CHOICE – Cultural Heritage: Opportunity for Improving Civic Engagement, which will be hosted by the Committee of the Regions and supported by the network “LIKE-European cities and regions for culture”.
The project “CHOICE – Cultural Heritage: Opportunity for Improving Civic Engagement ” is funded by European Commission and is a regional project, implemented in Armenia, Ukraine, Moldova and Belarus and is one of the most important actions for EAP dimension of ALDA.
The project supports the protection of the heritage of the countries which are trying to be the part of the Union and it works exclusively on local level, mobilizing citizens and supporting the community initiatives. As a result, a network of creative people works with bottom up approach to build the policy on cultural heritage in their countries. The project also strengthened their interaction with different stakeholders and increased their capacities to get more involved in the decision making process.
The two years action, which will be finished in June 2017, brought so far to mobilize significant number of people who believe that should protect cultural heritage. With variety of stakeholders, the mini projects implemented in the frame of the project CHOICE have influenced local communities; traditional ornaments, dishes were resurrected; new opportunities were created; awareness and knowledge of participants were raised.
The meeting will include two parts, an exhibition and a panel discussion. During the exhibition, subjects demonstrating the heritage of the nations of Armenia, Moldova, Ukraine and Belarus will be presented, through photos, handcraft, website and other useful materials. The exhibition will be followed by the panel discussion, the main purpose of which will be to discuss Cultural Heritage issues in the EU and Eastern Partnership, to present cultural heritage as a tool for community mobilization at the local level. Also the policy papers and recommendations developed for the EAP region regarding the preservation of cultural heritage will be presented.
This is an opportunity to provide a platform for these countries and their work on EU level and also inform EU institutions about the project. Also, taking into consideration the proposal about the announcement of the year 2018 – the European Year of Cultural Heritage can bring additional importance to this event.
The event will be held in Rue Van Maerlant 2, Brussels.
