Meeting in Kotor for project "Cooperazione Montenegro": discussing the possibility to abolish mental hospitals in Montenegro.
On Monday 1 October 2014, a meeting among psychiatrists from Friuli-Venezia-Giulia Region (Italy) and Montenegro took place in Kotor, the seat of the biggest psychiatric hospital of Montenegro.
The meeting was held within the framework of the project “ Cooperazione Montenegro” funded with the FVG Law on Development Cooperation, in partnership with the LDA of Niksic and the Community for Italians in Montenegro. Alessandro Perelli, Vice President of ALDA, and the Delegate from the DLA in Niksic, Meriem Medjedovic, took part at the event.
Besides Montenegrin doctors and nurses, also Renzo Bonn, Director of the mental health centre of north Udine (Italy), Stana Stanic, psychiatrist at the centre in Trieste and Michela Vogrir, President of Cosm (consorzio per l’economia sociale).
Several themes were treated, such as a possibility for Montenegro to adopt the principal points of the Italian rule that abolished mental hospitals and strengthened local facilities and, in this sense, the dignity and human rights protection of people with mental illnesses.
