ALDA’s showcase at EDDs 5-6 June 2018
Organised by the European Commission, the European Development Days (EDD) bring the development community together each year to share ideas and experiences in ways that inspire new partnerships and innovative solutions to the world’s most pressing challenges.
The European Development Days 2018 will take place at Tour & Taxis on 5-6 June 2018 in Brussels, Belgium.
Sessions in which ALDA will participate
Wednesday, June 6, 2018, 14.45 – 16.00: “Empowerment of Women: the case of the National Commission for Lebanese Women. Exchange of best practices on effective women coordination and networking mechanisms in the MENA region. Anne Laure Joedicke, Coordinator for the Mediterranean area from ALDA Strasbourg, Maggy Grabundzija, consultant Eurecna SPA and Faiza Benhadid-Messaoudi, international expert on Gender & Human Rights Center of Arab Woman for Training and Research will be the speakers. Randa Yassir, from Eurecna SpA, will be the moderator.
Wednesday, June 6, 2018, 10.00 – 11.00: “(Im) Perfect day: ALDA Europe fighting for a more equal society”. Presenting the ALDA Projects related to Gender issues and promoting the Lab of the afternoon in which the project Parfait will be presented. Projects that can be presented: Get Up, Parfait, WEMIN, SW-UP. ALDA staff will ask the people that visit the stand to reflect and write down a moment when they were discriminated and how they felt. We will display these thoughts so people can read and reflect on their own experiences.

Tuesday, June 5, 2018, 9.30 – 10.45: “Fighting violence against women from a multistakeholder approach, moving beyond vulnerability narratives”, the session that will on one hand share key findings and potential solutions from different public and private actors involved in the research on violence and discrimination of women in Europe, Latin America and Africa. On the other hand, a special attention will be given to the wider political context at EU and member state level and how it influences the situation of women, with a specific focus in sexual and reproductive rights. ALDA’s partner AEXCID will be one of the organizers of the session.
Tuesday, June 5 – Wednesday, June 6 2018: The Extremadura Region Reaffirms its Commitment with SDG 5 Gender Equality. “Strengthening Girls and Women’s voice and participation”. The Stand,organized by ALDA’s partner AEXCID, will aim to express and demonstrate the fundamental commitment of the Region of Extremadura with the SDG and will shocase the Extremadura women work in achieving the goals Through our stand we will showcase and strengthening the Extremadura Girls’ and Women’s work in the frame work SDG.
Tuesday, June 5, 2018, 9.30 – 10.45: “Leaders of change in the Maghreb. Promoting female leadership in the Maghreb”. A debate session structured around three axes: The inclusion of women in municipal policies (transport, security, education…); Women’s participation in local politics (local elected women, representatives, legal provisions favoring parity…); Women leaders, leaders of influence and change in the Maghreb.
