The Community Museum: a winning receipt combining culture and activism
“Ke nova?” (“What’s new?”) they would ask in the city of Herceg Novi their fellow citizen, in the typical slang manner of the coastal region. The Local Democracy Agency team members, based on the impressions from the project's meeting in Herceg Novi, could, in response to this question, answer through the rich impressions that reflect the aroma of the this region, its “originals”, as well as the paths of Ivo Andric (1892- 1975), famous writer from the ex-Yugoslavia, Nobel Prize in Literature in 1961.
In accordance with the objectives of the Co.Co.Tour Project, the Local Democracy Agency and the project partners, among which the Municipality of Herceg Novi, had a productive meeting and discussions with the aim of forming an eco and community museum in the surroundings of the house of Ivo Andric. In order to broaden this territorial analysis and the creation of the functional concept forseseen by the community museum, the partners organised various encounters to understand Andric's personality, following the traces he left in Herceg Novi. Bosiljka Pusic and Vojo Stanic, Andric's contemporaries and people with whom he spent time together, plunged us in the magic of storytelling with some flickers of Ivo's personality, with his patience and wisdom.
Other conversations with the CSO Ruke Herceg Novi, the Online magazine "Suncev Zrak " (The world in our own eyes), the CSO "New Chance in New ", the Youth Cultural Center Herceg Novi and the Radio Jadran depicted Herceg Novi in the present time as a city rich in architectural beauties, castles and greenery, hiding as well gems of crafts, creativity and local activism that can contribute to the development of this community museum.
