When theatre meets community! A workshop with migrants and locals in Brussels
Deeply touching moments characterized the event In Your Shoes: A Theatre Workshop for an Inclusive Community, which took place on Saturday, 16th November 2019 in Brussels within the framework of the FromMEtoEU project.
FromMEtoEU aims to create opportunities for European citizens and Migrant people to help one another and promote a new idea of a multicultural community. Through interviews with migrants and EU citizens based in Brussels, it is gathering suggestions and ideas about how EU citizens and migrants can support one another in their daily life.
After the first local event that took place in June 2019, ALDA as a partner of FromMEtoEU organized In Your Shoes within the second phase of the project “I need (E)U, (E)U needs me”. The special atmosphere of workshop host La Serre, together with expert theatre trainer Caroline Donnelly and ALDA project managers Dolinda Cavallo and Sofia Caiolo, warmly welcomed the multicultural audience and allowed them to fruitfully exchange ideas.
The aim of the workshop was to provide a fun theatre training and initiate a discussion on the topics of integration and reciprocal collaboration within a community. The participants practiced storytelling and used the stage to interpret different perspectives on migration. Thanks to deep, significant moments it became apparent how important it is to help one another within a community!
What’s next? Coming up for the FromMEtoEU project is the connection of its partners via an online webinar: this will train them to use an online portal which will register and answer requests for support and offers of collaboration. In the online platform, there will be eight sections, one per each country-partner of the project! In the section dedicated to Brussels, citizens will be able to exchange and join efforts to help each other within the community.
Stay tuned and get ready for the last local event, which will soon present the platform to the Community of Brussels!
