UNDP Turkey, ALDA+ and the EU together for transparency and accountability
In the framework of the project “Local Administration Reform Phase III”, ALDA+ is leading a week-long, tailor-built technical study visit focused on transparency and accountability
which will take a number of key Turkish stakeholders from Ljubljana to Vicenza, Rome and Milan.
The project, implemented by UNDP Turkey
and funded by the European Union
, aims to ensure effective, inclusive, accountable and participatory local governance in Turkey
, and involves UNDP experts and a group of high ranking officials and experts representing the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization, the Union of Municipalities in Turkey and various Metropolitan Municipalities.
Accompanied by ALDA staff, the project team will conduct the study visit in Slovenia and Italy to learn about enhancing transparency and accountability in their daily services through a comparative assessment of the practices of these EU member states and the provision of recommendations on the development of a secondary legislation on the topic.
The objective is for the Turkish delegation to not only acquire in-depth knowledge on how the matter is tackled in the EU, but also develop and strengthen partnerships and networks between Turkish and EU local authorities.
This will be reached through a variety of activities in the course of the week, which will go from January 19th to 25th and consist in an integrated programme of training sessions and in-field visits with various Municipalities and other entities - such as the Commission for the Prevention of Corruption of the Republic of Slovenia, the Italian Department of Public Administration, Transparency International
, Avviso Pubblico
, the Lombardy Region and the Municipalities of Ljubljana, Novo Mesto, Schio, Milan.
A networking lunch buffet will take place on Wednesday, January 22nd with ALDA representatives and ALDA members, too: this will be a great occasion to present the Association’s mission to the Turkish delegation and better get to know each other, and we are very much looking forward to it!
