Participatory democracy in diverse neighbourhoods: a new winner for the Gianfranco Martini scholarship
ALDA is extremely proud and honoured to announce the winner of the 2019 edition of the Gianfranco Martini Scholarship, Elena Ostanel.
Elena's project proposal, CAPacity, centers on empowering communities and institutions to foster local democracy, with the specific aim to analyze different strategies implemented in different EU countries to enhance participatory democracy in diverse neighborhoods.
The study will hence analyze policies implemented by local governments as well as practices performed by community-based organizations in diverse neighborhoods. The research will specifically inquire the relationship between policies and practices, considering co-production between institutional and non-institutional stakeholders a key element to scale up experimentation at a policy level and therefore guarantee the public character of community-based initiatives.
The Gianfranco Martini Scholarship is awarded once a year to a student or researcher proposing a study or work project focusing on local democracy, engagement of civil society and/or interethnic dialogue. Its aim is to receive high-quality academic research and analysis that are relevant to ALDA’s fields of activity in order to develop further strategies on these topics, prioritizing the projects that target regions where ALDA is active.
