Within the framework of the cooperation between the cities of Hermanville-sur-Mer and Vevčani, the NGOs “MJC Intercommunale” from Hermanville-sur-Mer and “Ličnik “ from Macedonia started a project with a view to organise youth exchanges. In the first phase ten youngsters from Vevčani went in the twinned city from July 20 until July 30, 2012. Given that the youngsters from Vevčani live in a mountainous area, the aim of the project is to give the opportunity to these young people to discover what the life like near the sea is.

The youngsters from the two territories were engaged in many outdoors activities in order to learn how to make a kite, to surf in the sea, to learn sand yachting and to make radio programmes. They also visited the museum of Normandy located in Caen, the city of Caen and the surrounding communes such as: Colleville-sur-Mer and Luc-sur-Mer. The youngsters from the two territories presented in creative ways the cultures, traditions and dances of their respective countries on the organised French and Macedonian soirée. A folk dance group from Macedonia joined the youngsters from July 26 until July 29 in Hermanville-sur-Mer. The group performed in Fleury-sur-Orne and Hermanville-sur-Mer and made a vibrant presentation of the Macedonian dances, songs and cloths. The group also performed during the “Festival of the Fish”, a traditional event that is regularly organised by the locals in Hermanville-sur-Mer.
The adventure was finalised by visit of Paris which enabled the youngsters to discover the most important monuments in the capital.
In the following phase of the cooperation between the two cities, youngsters from Hermanville-sur-Mer will visit Vevčani in the summer 2012.
Town twinning as a segment in the Decentralised cooperation between Lower Normandy and Macedonia builds up contacts and friendship with communities from the two territories and promotes better understanding. The Programme for Decentralised cooperation is coordinated by the Association of Local Democracy Agencies (ALDA).
