Within the framework of the decentralised cooperation between the Lower Normandy Region and Macedonia, a delegation from the Mont-Saint-Michel area visited Macedonia from 1st until 6 of October 2012. The objective of the study visit was to establish contact between the two territories and to find areas of common interest for a future cooperation.

The delegation, composed of experts in the fields of culture and tourism, was hosted by the Centre for Institutional Development – CIRa and the Centre for new initiatives in art and culture – Lokomotiva.
In the first two days of the visit, the delegation had meetings with the Macedonian Ministry of Local Self-Government and with the Macedonian Chamber of Tourism, after which they visited several municipalities of the South-West Planning Region in Macedonia and had a meeting with the Head of the Centre for Development of the South-West Planning Region in order to discover the potentials for tourism development in the region.
The last two days of the visit were devoted to culture. Therefore the members of the delegation visited the rural municipality of Mogila and had meeting with the Mayor and the local cultural agents who strive for preserving the Macedonian cultural traditions. They had meetings with the representatives of the Centre for Development of the Pelagonija Planning Region and with the representatives of several cultural institutions of the region, such as: the Institute and Museum Bitola, the National Theatre in Bitola and the Youth Cultural Centre in Bitola.
The two parties showed willingness to cooperate. The two territories have similarities in terms of culture and tourism, two fields which are closely linked as two vectors for economic development in which the French and Macedonian partners will try to cooperate.
The decentralised cooperation between the Lower Normandy Region and Macedonia has been coordinated by ALDA for 5 consecutive years and will further develop.
